Heavy Smog Hits East China

Super Smog Hits Chinese City As Air Pollution Soars To 40 Times Higher Than International Safety Standard

BEIJING (AP) — Visibility shrank to less than half a football field and small-particle pollution soared to a record 40 times higher than an international safety standard in one northern Chinese city as the region entered its high-smog season.

The manager for U.S. jazz singer Patti Austin, meanwhile, said the singer had canceled a concert in Beijing because of an asthma attack likely linked to pollution.

Winter typically brings the worst air pollution to northern China because of a combination of weather conditions and an increase in the burning of coal for homes and municipal heating systems, which usually starts on a specific date. For the large northern city of Harbin, the city’s heating systems kicked in on Sunday, and on Monday visibility there was less than 50 meters (yards), according to state media.

“I couldn’t see anything outside the window of my apartment, and I thought it was snowing,” Wu Kai, 33, a housewife and mother of a baby boy, said in a telephone interview from Harbin. “Then I realized it wasn’t snow. I have not seen the sun for a long time.” [ More ]

China Environment Vs Economy

Shanghai’s Smog Becomes Living Hazard In One Of Worst Bouts Of Air Pollution (PHOTOS)

SHANGHAI (AP) — Shanghai authorities ordered schoolchildren indoors and halted all construction Friday as China’s financial hub suffered one of its worst bouts of air pollution, bringing visibility down to a few dozen meters, delaying flights and obscuring the city’s spectacular skyline.

The financial district was shrouded in a yellow haze, and noticeably fewer people walked the city’s streets. Vehicle traffic also was thinner, as authorities pulled 30 percent of government vehicles from the roads. They also banned fireworks and public sporting events.

“I feel like I’m living in clouds of smog,” said Zheng Qiaoyun, a local resident who kept her 6-month-old son at home. “I have a headache, I’m coughing, and it’s hard to breathe on my way to my office.”

Shanghai’s concentration of tiny, harmful PM 2.5 particles reached 602.5 micrograms per cubic meter Friday afternoon, an extremely hazardous level that was the highest since the city began recording such data last December. That compares with the World Health Organization’s safety guideline of 25 micrograms.

The dirty air that has gripped Shanghai and its neighboring provinces for days is attributed to coal burning, car exhaust, factory pollution and weather patterns, and is a stark reminder that pollution is a serious challenge in China. Beijing, the capital, has seen extremely heavy smog several times over the past year. In the far northeastern city of Harbin, some monitoring sites reported PM 2.5 rates up to 1,000 micrograms per cubic meter in October, when the winter heating season kicked off.

As a coastal city, Shanghai usually has mild to modest air pollution, but recent weather patterns have left the city’s air stagnant. On China’s social media, netizens swapped jokes over the rivalry between Shanghai and Beijing, saying the financial hub was catching up with the capital in air pollution.

Alan Yu, a chef in Shanghai, satirized the air on his microblog as though he were sampling a new vintage of wine.

“Today, Shanghai air really has a layered taste. At first, it tastes slightly astringent with some smokiness. Upon full contact with your palate, the aftertaste has some earthy bitterness, and upon careful distinguishing you can even feel some dust-like particulate matter,” Yu wrote.

The environmental group Greenpeace said slow-moving and low-hanging air masses had carried factory emissions from Jiangsu, Anhui and Shandong provinces to Shanghai. But it said the root problem lies with the excessive industrial emissions in the region, including Zhejiang province to the south.

“Both Jiangsu and Zhejiang should act as soon as possible to set goals to reduce their coal consumption so that the Yantze River Delta will again be green with fresh air,” Huang Wei, a Greenpeace project manager, said in a statement.

We here in America and the True Democracy Party, understand to some degree what some of the people of China are going through.

We had our own problem with our skies. We called them:
“CHEMTRAILS: The Sky Wars, The Cloud Wars, The Sunshine Wars.”

This is what we had to deal with for years. Day in and day out. Sometimes, for months at a time.

We used Orgone Energy Based “Cloud-Busters” designed by Wade House of the T.D.P., based strictly upon the Idea’s and Research of Wilhelm Reich ‘The Real Rainman’, and his work with the Original “Cloud Busters” as he called them.

Wilhelm Reich could defeat Drought anywhere in the world with his various Orgone Energy based “Cloud Buster/Rain Makers”.

Before we, The True Democracy Party Of America launched; Operation: SILENT THUNDER NATURAL SKIES, we couldn’t find any local pictures or take any ourselves of the skies as we envisioned them to be.

Now after the beginning of Operation: SILENT THUNDER NATURAL SKIES in July 2012, we can step outside almost any time and find and take beautiful pictures of our skies, as in the following pictures taken in Frederick, Maryland, at various times.

Notice how similar our “New” skies over America are to those of Wilhelm Reich’s day in some of the above color photos.

It seems that simple ‘hollow’ pipes, connected to water, is all that is really needed.

Orgone Energy defeated Chemtrails Over America, but as a side benefit, it also appears to of rid our skies of almost all pollution.

The Skies over America are cleaner and crisper than they have been in years!

BOTTLED SUNSHINE VITAMIN D3 – SUNSHINE IN A BOTTLE: Astonishing Health Benefits – “Fountain Of Youth / Kills Cancer! ABC News”

A growing body of knowledge shows that, at optimized levels, vitamin D functions as a hormone rather than a vitamin, with numerous notable effects on the body.

bottled sunshine 2

These effects include support for:

• Healthy immunity
• Healthy mood
• Targeted support for over 2000 genes
• Healthy bone formation
• Healthy glucose metabolism
• Musculoskeletal comfort
• Heart health
• Healthy skin

Many health experts consider the benefits of vitamin D to be one of the most important health discoveries of the past 100 years. In this video newsletter, I’ll share new research on vitamin D deficiency – which affects 87% of Americans – and walk you through how to safely increase your levels.

History of Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency causing devastating bone-softening effects was reported as far back as the 1600’s. Originally treated with cod liver oil in the 1800’s, it wasn’t until the 1930’s that vitamin D deficiency was discovered as the cause.

Though called “vitamin D,” it is not really a vitamin, but a hormone. In fact, at optimized levels in the blood, the active form – known as calcitriol – is now understood as the most potent secosteroid hormone in the human body. At optimal levels its effects may extend far beyond bone support, showing responsibility for many health-promoting processes in the body.
Vitamin D “Overflow”

About ten years ago, researchers discovered that people who live in climates where natural sun exposure was the greatest experienced greater longevity. In northern climates, studies show up to 61% of Americans are vitamin D deficient, going up to 87% in the winter months (1)(2).

For the past 80 years it was believed that vitamin D was only important to the body for regulating calcium and protecting the bones. At levels below 50ng/ml, this is vitamin D’s main role. However, new research reported by the Vitamin D Council has shown that higher levels of vitamin D may have a much greater role to play. For example, when vitamin D3 levels are between 50-80 ng/ml the excess calcitriol (secosteroid hormone form of vitamin D) heads towards the cells – not the bones – where it then targets over 2,000 genes (about 10% of the human genome) in the human body.

It is this “overflow” of calcitriol that has created such a worldwide stir about the pervasive role of optimized vitamin D. At lower levels of sun exposure and vitamin D, this overflow simply doesn’t happen. The role of excess calcitriol in the cells – and the great importance of these findings – is only now being understood.

* No Sun = No Fun
Fifty thousand years ago, humans lived predominately in climates around the equator. Clothing was minimal and sun exposure was constant. As we migrated north, we endured sunless winters, wore more clothes and adapted to living indoors – away from the sun.

Today, we live, sleep, eat and drive indoors away from the vitamin D-rich UVB sun rays. In latitudes north of Atlanta (33°N), the UVB (vitamin D making sun rays) simply do not exist from November through March, making these months an emotional endurance event for many. Seasonal mood disturbances and feeling low in the winter months is often found to have a connection with low serotonin levels, which may be related to lack of sunlight (2).

It is the UVB rays that convert the cholesterol (7-dehydrocholesterol) on the skin into D3 (cholecalciferol). According to the US News Report, UVB rays are only available when the UV Index is at 3 or above, which doesn’t happen in the winter for most of America. You can check the UV Index in your area.
D3 versus D2

The D3 form of vitamin D has been shown to have the highest absorptive affinity and less toxicity in the human body compared to the more popular vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) (3). For this reason, vitamin D3 will store longer in the fats cells and help us endure a long, UVB-deficient winter.

Vitamin D2, which absorbs into the body 70% less effectively than vitamin D3 (4), was long thought to be the most active source of vitamin D supplementation. It is still used to fortify foods such as milk and orange juice and is the main pharmaceutical form of vitamin D support, though many pharmacies are now switching to vitamin D3 supplementation. Vitamin D3 is primarily derived from the sun, but is also found in cod liver oil and some fatty fish.

Native people commonly got their vitamin D3 in the winter by eating organ meats, which are generally rich in the fat soluble vitamins including vitamin D.

* How to Get Vitamin D3 from the Sun
During the summer months, the UVB rays are the strongest between 10am – 2pm. For most people, 10-15 minutes of direct sunlight on unprotected skin during these hours will be enough to manufacture about 10,000 – 20,000 IUs of vitamin D3. Get just enough sun to turn your skin slightly pink. Darker-skinned people will have to get more sun to optimize their vitamin D levels.

It takes about an hour for the cholesterol on your skin to convert to D3 and then to be absorbed. So if you work out in the sun and then take a shower, you might be washing off all that precious vitamin D you just manufactured on your skin. If you can, wait at least an hour before rinsing off. Many animals get their vitamin D by licking their fur after being in the sun— the oil on their skin and fur has combined with the UVB rays to make vitamin D3.

* How Your Body Uses Vitamin D3
From the skin, the vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) heads to the liver, where it is converted to calcidiol (25 hydroxyvitamin D). This is the form that circulates in the blood and is most accurately measured on a blood test.

From here, the calcidiol heads to the kidneys where it is converted to calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D), the most active form of vitamin D, which circulates to every tissue in the body.
Vitamin D Supports Immunity

Vitamin D expert Dr. John Cannell developed a theory that some immune issues are seasonal due to seasonal variations in sunlight, which cause fluctuations in vitamin D levels (3)(4). Vitamin D activates genes that support an immune response to foreign entities in the body (5).

Vitamin D has also been shown to support healthy respiratory immunity (6) (7).

Pro-inflammatory cytokines may be responsible for many lasting health issues. Vitamin D3 down-regulates cytokine activity and supports a healthy inflammatory response (7).

* Vitamin D Toxicity: Fiction or Fact?
Current understanding has it that the physiological requirement for vitamin D may be as high as 4000 IU/day for adults. Although the Food and Nutrition Board established the tolerable upper intake level (UL) at 2000 IU/day for adults, newer research demonstrates that this amount is very conservative, and it appears unlikely that toxicity would occur in healthy people with doses less than 10,000 IU/day (8). For adolescents, 2000 IU daily for a year has proven to be safe and efficacious (9).

With many articles discussing that individual sensitivity issues may exist, it’s important to be aware that vitamin D toxicity is rare. One study showed that 4,000 IUs per day for several years was completely safe and only after taking 40,000 IUs per day for several years is there a risk of developing toxicity symptoms (5).

That being said, as I review the research, I am not so convinced that we can be casual about the intake of high dosages of vitamin D supplements. Ideally, I think we should all do our very best to optimize our vitamin D levels in the summer when the UVB rays are available. There is no vitamin D toxicity from the sun because UVA rays break down the excess vitamin D. Vitamin D is stored in the fat, so we do carry much of it into the winter months if we optimize the summer’s UVB rays. Unfortunately, most of us work indoors during midday summer hours when the UVB rays are at their peak.

* Sunscreen Risks
For the past 25 years, sunscreens have only blocked out the skin-protecting UVB rays, but not the UVA rays. It was mistakenly thought that the UVB rays were the rays that potentially caused abnormal cell division in the skin cells, so sunscreens were designed with SPF factors that reflect the effectiveness of blocking only UVB rays. As it turns out, UVA rays are more abundant and penetrate deeper into the skin, making them more harmful than the UVB rays.

Additionally, twenty years ago, SPF ratings were only at 10, but today they have risen up to 100 in the effort to make the sunscreens more protective against abnormal cell growth. Sadly, all this time sunscreens have been blocking the good, protective UVB rays while letting in the harmful UVA rays.

* Take a Vitamin D Test
While it is difficult to become toxic with vitamin D, experts believe that it is ideal to keep the levels at the higher end of normal, which is between 50-80ng/ml. To maintain these optimal levels it is best to take a vitamin D test in the spring and fall.

If getting a blood test presents a problem because of the inconvenience of getting a doctor’s appointment, we offer an accurate Vitamin D Test Kit that you can do at home. This test is inexpensive, safe, simple, accurate and approved by the Vitamin D Council.
How to Optimize Your Vitamin D Levels and Prevent Deficiency

* Summer Sun Exposure
Regularly receive midday sun exposure between 10am – 2pm in the late spring, summer, and early fall, exposing as much of the skin as possible for 10-15 minutes if you are fair skinned. Longer if you are dark skinned. Remember, you have had enough when the skin shows the first sign of a pinkish change.

Supplementation: Depending on your sun exposure, I suggest minimal Vitamin D3 supplementation in the summer – perhaps a dose of 1,000 – 2,000 IUs per day.

Test Your Levels: Test your vitamin D levels to ensure you have optimized summer sun exposure.
Winter Maintenance

Supplements: Take 4,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 per day for three months, and then take a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test.

The goal is to get your vitamin D levels between 50-80ng/ml and keep them there. Testing is the only way to know for sure that you are maintaining these levels. Test yourself in the fall when the levels are the highest and in March when they are the lowest. With those two numbers, everyone can safely calculate their vitamin D supplement needs.

Children: Take 2,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 per day during the winter.

bottled sunshine

Vitamin D3, cholecalciferol (made from 7-dehydrocholesterol).

Vitamin D3 is made in the skin when 7-dehydrocholesterol reacts with ultraviolet light at 270-300 nm wavelengths – peak vitamin D3 production occurs between 295-297 nm. It is only when the UV index is greater than 3 that these UVB wavelengths are present.

A UV index of more than 3 occurs every day in the tropics, every day during some of spring, all of summer, and parts of autumn in temperate areas, and hardly ever at all in the arctic circles. Temperate regions are all regions outside the tropics and arctic circles. The number of days of the year when the UV index is greater than 3 becomes fewer the further you move away from the tropics.

Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common in northern latitudes and is considered an epidemic in the United States, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.1

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services3, vitamin D is essential for the “formation, growth, and repair of bones and for normal calcium absorption and immune function” and there are studies to suggest that “higher levels of vitamin D in the blood are associated with reduced risks of colorectal cancer; however, the research results overall have been inconsistent.”

* It is crucial for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous, which have various functions, especially the maintenance of healthy bones.

* It is an immune system regulator.

* Aids the immune system – vitamin D may be an important way to arm the immune system against disorders like the common cold, say scientists from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital and Children’s Hospital Boston.

* MS risk – it may reduce the risk of developing multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is much less common
the nearer you get to the tropics, where there is much more sunlight, according to Dennis Bourdette, chairman of the Department of Neurology and director of the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center at Oregon Health and Science University, USA.

* Maintaining cognitive functions – vitamin D may play a key role in helping the brain keep working well in later life, according to a study of 3000 European men between the ages of 40 and 79.

* Healthy body weight – vitamin D probably plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body weight, according to research carried out at the Medical College of Georgia, USA.

* Asthma symptoms and frequency – it can reduce the severity and frequency of asthma symptoms, and also the likelihood of hospitalizations due to asthma, researchers from Harvard Medical School found after monitoring 616 children in Costa Rica.

* Rheumatoid arthritis – it has been shown to reduce the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis in women.

* Protects from radiation damage – a form of vitamin D could be one of our body’s main protections against damage from low levels of radiation, say radiological experts from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

* Vitamin D and cancer risk – various studies have shown that people with adequate levels of vitamin D have a significantly lower risk of developing cancer, compared to those whose levels are low. Vitamin D deficiency was found to be prevalent in cancer patients regardless of nutritional status in a study carried out by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

* T.B. recovery – high vitamin D doses can help people recover from tuberculosis more rapidly, researchers reported in September 2012 in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

* Heart attack risk – an study published in September 2012 suggested that low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of heart attack and early death.

* Vitamin D Deficiencies
Children can develop rickets, which will later lead to bone deformities and adults can develop osteomalacia, a weakening of the muscles and bones.

* Lowered Risk of Type 1 Diabetes
Children who have a higher intake of vitamin D at an early age have a lowered risk of developing Type 1 Diabetes later in life.

* Prevents Osteoporosis
Vitamin D can help to prevent osteoporosis later in life. In fact, a long term effect of a vitamin D deficiency within the body is the reduction of calcium absorption.

* Prevents Pre-Eclampsia
A deficiency in vitamin D is related to Pre-eclampsia, which occurs during pregnancy and produces protein in urine, high blood pressure and edema. Pre-eclampsia leads to pre-mature labor and is the main cause of death during pregnancy.

* Helps Fight Cancer
While more clinical trials are needed, vitamin D has been shown to suppress cancer growth in cancers such as breast, colon and prostate.

* Maintains Mental Health
There are a multitude of vitamin D receptors in the brain and so because of this, it is believed that vitamin D helps to maintain and achieve a healthy mind.

* Reduces Chances of Alzheimer’s
Less vitamin D is converted into its active form as we age, so studies have shown that vitamin D deficiencies can lead to a greater chance of depression and Alzheimer’s in the elderly.

Spain Study Confirms Hemp Oil Cures Cancer w/o Side Effects: Who Is Trying To Patent Marijuana?

“The secret is out: marijuana is medicine. And not to the surprise of the pharmaceutical industry, who is slowly but surely gaining exclusive rights to the medical properties of this age-old plant.”

The International Medical Veritas Association (IMVA) is putting hemp oil on its cancer protocol. It is a prioritized protocol list whose top five items are magnesium chloride, iodine, selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid and sodium bicarbonate. It makes perfect sense to drop hemp oil right into the middle of this nutritional crossfire of anti cancer medicines, which are all available without prescription.

Hemp oil has long been recognised as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds (a member of the achene family of fruits) it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) – 2:5:1. Hemp oil, is known to contain up to 5% of pure GLA, a much higher concentration than any other plant, even higher than spirulina. For thousands of years, the hemp plant has been used in elixirs and medicinal teas because of its healing properties and now medical science is zeroing in on the properties of its active substances.

Both the commercial legal type of hemp oil and the illegal THC laden hemp oil are one of the most power-packed protein sources available in the plant kingdom. Its oil can be used in many nutritional and transdermal applications. In other chapters in my Winning the War on Cancer book we will discuss in-depth about GLA and cancer and also the interesting work of Dr. Johanna Budwig. She uses flax seed oil instead of hemp oil to cure cancer – through effecting changes in cell walls – using these omega3 and omega6 laden medicinal oils.

Actually there is another way to use medical marijuana without smoking the leaf. According to Dr. Tod H. Mikuriya, “The usual irritating and toxic breakdown products of burning utilized with smoking are totally avoided with vaporization. Extraction and inhaling cannabinoid essential oils below ignition temperature of both crude and refined cannabis products affords significant mitigation of irritation to the oral cavity, and tracheobronchial tree from pyrollytic breakdown products.

Rick Simpson, the man in the documentary below, has been making hemp oil and sharing it with friends and neighbors without charging for it. In small doses, he says, it makes you well without getting you high. “Well you can’t deny your own eyes can you?” Simpson asks. “Here’s someone dying of cancer and they’re not dying anymore. I don’t care if the medicine comes from a tomato plant, potato plant or a hemp plant, if the medicine is safe and helps and works, why not use it?” he asks.

When a person has cancer and is dying this question reaches a critical point. The bravery of Rick Simpson from Canada in showing us how to make hemp oil for ourselves offers many people a hope that should be increasingly appreciated as money dries up for expensive cancer treatments. We are going to need inexpensive medicines in the future and there is nothing better than the ones we can make reasonably cheaply ourselves.

For most people in the world it is illegal so the choice could come down to breaking the law or dying. There is no research to indicate what advantages oral use of hemp oil vs. vaporization but we can assume that advantage would be nutritional with oral intake. Dr. Budwig Below work would sustain this point of view especially for cancer patients.
The Science

According to Dr. Robert Ramer and Dr. Burkhard Hinz of the University of Rostock in Germany medical marijuana can be an effective treatment for cancer.

Their research was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute Advance Access on December 25th of 2007 in a paper entitled Inhibition of Cancer Cell Invasion by Cannabinoids via Increased Expression of Tissue Inhibitor of Matrix Metalloproteinases-1.

The biggest contribution of this breakthrough discovery, is that the expression of TIMP-1 was shown to be stimulated by cannabinoid receptor activation and to mediate the anti-invasive effect of cannabinoids. Prior to now the cellular mechanisms underlying this effect were unclear and the relevance of the findings to the behavior of tumor cells in vivo remains to be determined.

Marijuana cuts lung cancer tumor growth in half, a 2007 Harvard Medical School study shows. The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies.

This is the first set of experiments to show that the compound, Delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), inhibits EGF-induced growth and migration in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expressing non-small cell lung cancer cell lines. Lung cancers that over-express EGFR are usually highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy. THC that targets cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 is similar in function to endocannabinoids, which are cannabinoids that are naturally produced in the body and activate these receptors.

“The beauty of this study is that we are showing that a substance of abuse, if used prudently, may offer a new road to therapy against lung cancer,” said Anju Preet, Ph.D., a researcher in the Division of Experimental Medicine. Acting through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, endocannabinoids (as well as THC) are thought to play a role in variety of biological functions, including pain and anxiety control, and inflammation.

Researchers reported in the August 15, 2004 issue of Cancer Research, the journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, that marijuana’s constituents inhibited the spread of brain cancer in human tumor biopsies. In a related development, a research team from the University of South Florida further noted that THC can also selectively inhibit the activation and replication of gamma herpes viruses. The viruses, which can lie dormant for years within white blood cells before becoming active and spreading to other cells, are thought to increase one’s chances of developing cancers such as Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease.

In 1998, a research team at Madrid’s Complutense University discovered that THC can selectively induce programmed cell death in brain tumor cells without negatively impacting surrounding healthy cells. Then in 2000, they reported in the journal Nature Medicine that injections of synthetic THC eradicated malignant gliomas (brain tumors) in one-third of treated rats, and prolonged life in another third by six weeks.

Led by Dr. Manuel Guzman the Spanish team announced they had destroyed incurable brain cancer tumors in rats by injecting them with THC. They reported in the March 2002 issue of “Nature Medicine” that they injected the brains of 45 rats with cancer cells, producing tumors whose presence they confirmed through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On the 12th day they injected 15 of the rats with THC and 15 with Win-55,212-2 a synthetic compound similar to THC.

Researchers at the University of Milan in Naples, Italy, reported in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics that non-psychoactive compounds in marijuana inhibited the growth of glioma cells in a dose-dependent manner, and selectively targeted and killed malignant cells through apoptosis. “Non-psychoactive CBD produce[s] a significant anti-tumor activity both in vitro and in vivo, thus suggesting a possible application of CBD as an antineoplastic agent.”

The first experiment documenting pot’s anti-tumor effects took place in 1974 at the Medical College of Virginia at the behest of the U.S. government. The results of that study, reported in an Aug. 18, 1974, Washington Post newspaper feature, were that marijuana’s psychoactive component, THC, “slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent.”

Funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice — lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia. The DEA quickly shut down the Virginia study and all further cannabis/tumor research even though the researchers “found that THC slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent.”

“Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids,” an article in a 1975 Journal of the National Cancer Institute reports, “Lewis lung adenocarcinoma growth was retarded by the oral administration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabinol (CBN)” — two types of cannabinoids, a family of active components in marijuana. “Mice treated for 20 consecutive days with THC and CBN had reduced primary tumor size.”

Marijuana relieves pain that narcotics like morphine and OxyContin
have hardly any effect on, and could help ease suffering from
illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes and cancer.

According to Devra Davis in her book Secret History of the War on Cancer, 1.5 million lives have been lost because Americans failed to act on existing knowledge about the environmental causes of cancer. It is impossible to calculate the added deaths from suppressed ‘cancer cures’ but we do know of the terrible suffering of hundreds of thousands of people who have been jailed for marijuana use.

Hemp oil with THC included has the making of a primary cancer treatment, which even alone seems to have a great chance of turning the tide against cancer tumors. It has the added advantage of safety, ease of use, lack of side effects and low cost if one makes it oneself. Surrounded by other medicinal anti-cancer substances in a full protocol it’s hard to imagine anyone failing and falling in their war on cancer.

THC should be included in every cancer protocol.

Sodium bicarbonate is another excellent anti tumor substance that reduces tumors but is much more difficult to administer than THC hemp oil. Cannabinoids are able to pass through all barriers in the body like Alpha Lipoic Acid so simple oral intake is sufficient. With bicarbonate we need intravenous applications and often even this is not sufficient, often we have to use catheters and few doctors in the world are willing to administer this way.

In the end all cancer treatments that are not promoted by mainstream oncology are illegal. No licensed doctor is going to claim that are curing cancer with sodium bicarbonate though they will treat people with cancer explaining they are balancing pH or some other metabolic profile with this common emergency room medicine found also most kitchens of the world. More than several states have passed laws making medical marijuana legal but the federal government will not relax and let people be free to choose their treatments even if their lives depend on it.

Davis notes that the cowardice of research scientists, who publish thoroughly referenced reports but pull their punches at the end, by claiming that more research needs to be done before action can be taken. Statements like these are exploited by industry that buys time to make much more money. It is a deliberate attempt that creates wholesale public doubt from small data gaps and remaining scientific uncertainties.

They have done that with everything right up to and including sunlight. Everything is thought to be dangerous except the pharmaceutical drugs which are the most dangerous substances of all. Stomach wrenching chemotherapy and the death principle of radiation are legal yet safe THC laden hemp oil is not.

It is legal for doctors to attack people with their poisons but you can go to jail for trying to save yourself or a loved one from cancer with the oil of a simple garden weed. Our civilization has put up with this insanity but there is a great price being paid. In a mad medical world people die that need not and this is a terrible sadness that has destroyed the integrity and ethics of modern medicine.

The science for the use of hemp oil is credible, specific fact-based, and is documented in detail.[xiv] There is absolutely no reason to not legalize medical marijuana and create an immediate production and distribution of THC hemp oil to cancer patients. Unfortunately we live in a world populated with governments and medical henchmen who would rather see people die cruel deaths then have access to a safe and effect cancer drug.

Meanwhile the Food and Drug Administration approved Genentech’s best-selling drug, Avastin, as a treatment for breast cancer, in a decision, according to the New York Times, “that appeared to lower the threshold somewhat for approval of certain cancer drugs. The big question was whether it was enough for a drug temporarily to stop cancer from worsening — as Avastin had done in a clinical trial — or was it necessary for a drug to enable patients to live longer, which Avastin had failed to do. Oncologists and patient advocates were divided, in part because of the drug’s sometimes severe side effects.”

The differences between Avastin and hemp oil are huge. First Avastin will earn Genentech hundreds of millions where THC hemp oil will earn no one anything. Second there are no severe or even mild side effects to taking hemp oil and lastly it is not a temporary answer but a real solution. Certainly hemp oil will ensure a longer life.

Who Is Trying To Patent Marijuana?

The secret is out: marijuana is medicine. And not to the surprise of the pharmaceutical industry, who is slowly but surely gaining exclusive rights to the medical properties of this age-old plant.

But wait. How can a company, other than Monsanto, patent a plant? That’s not a serious question, but it brings up a serious point. Patents on marijuana have yet to cover genetic modifications of the plant itself, but rather involve the cannabinoids found in marijuana that are responsible for its medical effects.

Phytocannabinoids in the treatment of cancer (Patent No. US20130059018)

The most recent patent filing on cannabinoids comes from none other than GW Pharmaceuticals – the UK-based company that manufactures Sativex (1). Sativex is an oral spray that contains cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant itself, specifically THC and CBD. Although Sativex is not yet available in the U.S., it has already gained approval in Canada, the UK and eight other European countries.

GW Pharma has been quick to recognize the market potential of cannabis and their most recent patent application makes this more than clear. Just from the title of the patent, one gets a good sense of what GW Pharma has been trying to claim as their own. “Phytocannabinoids” simply means cannabinoids derived from plants, referring to the cannabis plant in this case.

Unsurprisingly, it appears as though GW Pharma encountered difficulties in trying to claim such a broad “invention”. In fact, the updated version of their patent application shows that more than half of their original patent claims were retracted, and for good reason too. Looking back in time, GW Pharma made claims to just the use of isolated cannabinoids in the treatment of cancer, which is no more of an invention than it is a theft from individuals who first proclaimed marijuana’s cancer-fighting abilities decades ago.

On the other hand, GW Pharma’s remaining claims might just pass through the Patent Office without further questioning. GW Pharma seems to be familiar with the pharmaceutical industry’s shrewd patent strategies, which involves modifying pre-existing compounds that have already been proven to work.

In this case, all GW Pharma had to do was claim that they invented a cannabis-based botanical drug substance for treating cancer – botanical drug substance meaning any form of marijuana prepared by methods as simple as aqueous or ethanolic extraction. There you have it. GW Pharma invented neither cannabis nor a method of extraction, but still consider themselves to be inventors of “phytocannabinoids in the treatment of cancer”.

Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants (Patent No. US6630507)

Perhaps the most infamous marijuana-related patent belongs to the U.S. federal government themselves. Indeed, while federal agents have been keeping busy trying to defend their stance on pot prohibition, they also made sure to file patents on the medical components of the very same Schedule I drug. The funny thing is, this particular patent dates all the way back to 1998 when Bill “didn’t inhale” Clinton was still president.

Although federal patent writers made sure to include a long list of synthetic cannabinoids within their claims, carefully tucked away is none other than cannabidiol, also known as CBD. Once again, the inventive step in this patent seems to be severely lacking, but maybe the federal government gets more flexibility with their patent filings.

Regardless, it seems as though the use of CBD for the treatment of “stroke and trauma”, “Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia” and a “wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases” all belongs to the White House, at least for the next 10 years until their patent expires.

Private funding matters more

It might be easy to blame an outdated patent system for what seems to be just another one of the many injustices that plague the private health care system. But the truth is, it’s not really the Patent Office’s fault that marijuana is being taken over by capital-backed corporations and government agencies.

Rather, the fault lies in the restrictive nature of medical marijuana research, which is overseen by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) – the only source of legal marijuana in the U.S.

According to researchers (2) who have attempted to conduct clinical trials on cannabis, the NIDA is simply uninterested in supplying cannabis for medical studies, in accordance with a mandate from Congress that limits NIDA researchers to investigating the marijuana’s dangers. And being the overwhelmingly benign substance (3) that it is, marijuana hasn’t been the subject of many NIDA studies for a while now.

But perhaps the worst outcome of this situation is not the fact that clinical research on medical marijuana is severely lacking. No, the worst part is that the gap in research is eagerly being filled by corporations like GW Pharma. Indeed, while there were a total 37 clinical studies (4) conducted on cannabinoids between 2005-2009, only 8 of them involved actual marijuana. On the other hand, 9 of the 37 studies involved Sativex, with the rest consisting of a variety of synthetic THC formulations, no doubt sponsored by their respective manufacturers as well.

So where does this leave the rest of us? Not too far from where we started off it seems, since it’s no surprise to anyone that healthcare will continue to be driven by privately funded research, even in the case of marijuana. But all that research money has to come from somewhere, and you can bet it’s not coming from the deep pockets of GW Pharma’s executive board.

As it turns out, a couple of shrewd businessmen with knowledge of medicine realized long ago that sick and dying individuals will pay almost any price for the promise of relief, even if it happens to be all of their life savings and then some. What happened to these businessmen? Oh, they’re still around. We just call them Big Pharma.

The Bizarre History Of Fluoride (FULL VERSION)
Uploaded on Mar 29, 2011

A wonderfully informative documentary explaining the pros and cons of lying to the public about their forced fluoridation. I wonder how/why we have gotten to this point, the beautiful thing is people are waking up! Please enjoy.

“Fluoride is a Poison”.

Fluoride is a synthetic waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, phosphate fertilizer industries, has an amazing capacity to combine and increase the potency of other toxic materials, and it can cause skeletal or dental fluorosis, which weakens bone and dental matter. It damages the liver and kidneys, weakens the immune system, possibly leading to cancer, creates symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia, and performs as a Trojan Horse to carry aluminum across the blood brain barrier. Also, the pineal gland can become calcified from fluorides, inhibiting it’s function as a melatonin producer, which is needed for sound, deep sleep

‪The Fluoride Deception – FULL LENGTH

Hailed as a harmless chemical that would prevent tooth decay, new evidence shows how fluoride could be linked to serious health problems.

Fluoridation was first advanced in the US at the end of the second World War. Proponents argued that fluoride in water and toothpaste would help to protect teeth and prevent decay. Over the following decades, fluoride was added to public water supplies across the country.

While the benefits of fluoridation have been held to be unquestionable, accumulating evidence points to a frightening prospect: that fluoride may have serious adverse health effects, including infant mortality, congenital defects and IQ.

Now a new book, titled “The Fluoride Deception” by Christopher Bryson examines the background of the fluoridation debate. According to Bryson, research challenging fluoride’s safety was either suppressed or not conducted in the first place. He says fluoridation is a triumph not of medical science but of US government spin.

Fluoride and your Thyroid—a dangerous connection

The following article is written by Mr. Bill Buckel of Utah, who has discovered and compiled sobering information about Fluoride on our health…

Before writing of my own difficulties with Fluoride, which caused my supplementation of Armour Thyroid to be attacked and diminished, it is important that we understand just what the chemicals “Fluorine”, the compound “hydrofloric acid”, and the element “Fluoride” really are. Therefore, a quote from Dr. Joseph Mercola is in order:

“Fluorine is an element. It is a gas, never occurring in its free state. In microscopic amounts complexed with other minerals, it is often listed as a trace mineral, a nutrient for human nutrition. This has nothing to do with “fluoride or fluoridation.” Yet the fluoride added to 90% of drinking water is hydrofluoric acid, which is a compound of fluorine that is a chemical byproduct of aluminum, steel, cement, phosphate, and nuclear weapons manufacturing.

Such fluoride is manmade. In this form, fluoride has no nutrient value whatsoever. It is one of the most caustic of industrial chemicals. Fluoride is the active toxin in rat poisons and cockroach powder. Hydrofluoric acid is used to refine high octane gasoline, to make fluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons for freezers and air conditioners, (think “FREON”) and to manufacture computer screens, fluorescent light bulbs, semiconductors, plastics, herbicides, — and toothpaste. It also has the ability to burn flesh to the bone, destroy eyes, and sear lungs so that victims drown in their own body fluid.

Once in the body, fluoride is a destroyer of human enzymes. It does this by changing their shapes. You’ll remember from the Enzymes chapter that in human biochemistry, thousands of enzymes are necessary for various essential cell reactions that take place every second we’re alive. (Howell) Without enzymes, we’d die instantaneously. Enzymes trigger specific reactions in the body. One way they do this is by having the exact shape necessary, like a key in a lock.

Fluoride Changes The Shape Of The Enzymes So That They No Longer Fit. Since enzymes are proteins, once they’ve been changed, they’re now foreign-looking. The body now treats them as invaders, even though they’re part of that body. This is known as an autoimmune situation – the body attacks itself. Another way to look at it: enzymes are long-chain proteins held in certain shapes. Hydrogen bonds are the Velcro strips that hold the enzyme in a certain shape. Fluoride comes along and hydrolyzes the enzyme: cuts the Velcro strips away. The shape collapses. No more enzyme; now just a foreign protein.”

Only after researching and finding fluoride information like the above did this subject become one near-and-dear to not only to myself, but to my wife and children as well.

In 2003, I began experiencing a nagging morning brain fog—a confused, “what-am-I-to-do-next?” kind of thing, when I first addressed the mirror for shaving in the morning. Soon, at the suggestion of my wife, a regimen of one grain Armour natural desiccated Thyroid was begun (one grain = 60 mg.). And within a very short time, I had no more low body temperatures, no uncontrolled shivers and another big plus–no more symptoms of asthma! No longer needed are those various inhalers that had become the norm for more than ten years! Additionally, I now had a fuller eyebrow, which had never been more than half there. (With subsequent increases, my dose is now 3 gr.)

At the end of that first year, on October 1, 2003 while using thyroid and feeling GREAT like I hadn’t felt for years, our County began adding “Hydrofluosilicic Acid”, the cheapest (and most dangerous form of) Fluoride available to our water district. Within the next few weeks, both my wife and I discovered a reversal of the good health we had discovered after starting the use of thyroid supplementation. When we visited the Water District Plant and complained of the horrible effects of that fluoridation, the manager said: “Hold it, you are preaching to the choir! We must add it, since it has been mandated by the county, and I need my job.” The manager was actually (privately) very agreeable to our position, admitting knowledge of toxicity and the effects of fluoride on human health.

Inside of those three weeks, both my wife and myself felt that our thyroid supplement was no longer doing anything for us. With much Internet searching and watching the difference in how our health was going downhill, we became aware of many articles written by doctors worldwide that were warning of the very problems and dangers we were currently experiencing. We subsequently bought and installed a 5-stage reverse-osmosis filtration system, which takes out the fluoride by filtering to about .0001 to .0003 microns, and in a very short time we were back to our good health and our thyroid levels were once more at a good level. (But, a diligent awareness tells us that we should increase our daily-dose when those niggling hints of hypothyroidism present themselves.) Since that time we avoid the use of any toothpaste! Rather – we use baking soda and filtered water and avoid “most juices and soft drinks.” We even tote our filtered water along to stores, movies and restaurants.

Our research had led us to such articles as this excerpt from the following:

Fracking is the controversial process of blasting water mixed with sand and chemicals deep underground at high pressure so as to fracture rock and release the oil and gas it holds. It has made previously inaccessible fossil fuel reserves economical to tap, and drilling operations have spread rapidly across the country.

The University of Missouri team found that 11 chemicals commonly used in the fracking process are “endocrine disrupters” – compounds that can affect the human hormonal system and have been linked to cancer, birth defects, and infertility.

“More than 700 chemicals are used in the fracking process, and many of them disturb hormone function,” said Dr. Susan Nagel, associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and women’s health at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and a co-author of the study, in a news release.

“With fracking on the rise, populations may face greater health risks from increased endocrine-disrupting chemical exposure.”

In May 2008, Josh Fox received a letter from a natural gas company offering to lease his family’s land in Milanville, Pennsylvania for $100,000 to drill for gas.[1]

Following the lease offer, he looked for information about natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale under large parts of Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia. He visited Dimock, Pennsylvania where natural gas drilling was already taking place. In Dimock, he met families able to light their tap water on fire as well as suffering from numerous health issues and fearing their well water had been contaminated.

Fox then set out to see how communities are being affected in the west where a natural gas drilling boom has been underway for the last decade. He spent time with citizens in their homes and on their land as they relayed their stories of natural gas drilling in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Texas, among others. He spoke with residents who have experienced a variety of chronic health problems as well as contamination of their air, water wells or surface water. In some instances, the residents are reporting that they obtained a court injunction or settlement monies from gas companies to replace the affected water supplies with potable water or water purification kits.[2]

Drilling for natural gas is contaminating drinking water!

Water contaminated shortly after hydraulic fracture

Uploaded on Jun 10, 2010

Shortly after a natural gas well was fractured using the controversial technique of hydraulic fracturing, a private water well within a thousand feet of the natural gas well site began showing sedimentation. DISH resident Amber Smith says shortly after the well was fractured a fine sand like sediment was present in the water from their private water well. The Smith family installed a water filtration system shortly after the sediment became present and continued using the water. However, after a year the sedimentation reached the point that it clogged the entire plumbing system, and the water well is now unusable.

The Smith family removed the tank from the water well and removed over ten pounds of the sand like substance. After dismantling and cleaning the well system, the Smith family reassembled the well only to have it completely obstructed after only 30 minutes of operation. Devon Energy who is the operator of the gas well has refused to take responsibility for the failure. The Railroad Commission of Texas responded and took samples of the tainted water for limited analyzing. The town of DISH also had independent testing accomplished to determine the content of the sand like substance.

The water well owned by the Smith family shows levels of arsenic at 7.5 times the acceptable level for drinking water. The water also contained lead at levels that were 21 times above the acceptable levels, and chromium at more that double the allowable limits. Independent testing shows elevated levels of butanone, acetone, carbon disulfide, strontium, as well as heavy metals, all above safe drinking water standards. The town is awaiting additional test results.

DISH is located in the epicenter of the Barnett Shale gas play and is home to a megacomplex of compressor stations, as well as pipelines, metering stations, gathering lines and gas wells. The town of DISH spent nearly 15% of its annual budget on a comprehensive air study after months of complaints to the state regulatory agencies and the operators of the compressor sites, gave the citizens no relief.

DISH mayor Calvin Tillman says that “we are finally getting our air cleaned up, and now our water is showing signs of pollution, we take two steps forward and three steps back”. These results clearly show a correlation between the natural gas drilling process and water contamination, and this industry should no longer make claims that they have never contaminated a water source.

DISH resident Amber Smith is extremely concerned that her young children has been drinking this water.

Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals Linked to Fracking Found in Colorado River – National Geographic

This week, more evidence came in that hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) poses potentially serious risks to drinking water quality and human health.

A team of researchers from the University of Missouri found evidence of hormone-disrupting activity in water located near fracking sites – including samples taken from the Colorado River near a dense drilling region of western Colorado.

The Colorado River is a source of drinking water for more than 30 million people.

The peer-reviewed study was published this week in the journal Endocrinology.

The research team collected samples from ground water and surface water from sites in Garfield County, Colorado, where fracking fluids had accidentally spilled, as well as from the nearby Colorado River, into which local streams and groundwater drain. They also took samples from other areas of Garfield County where little drilling has taken place, as well as from a county in Missouri where there had been no drilling at all.

They found that the samples from the spill site had moderate-to-high levels of endocrine-disrupting activity, and the Colorado River samples had moderate levels. The other two samples, taken from areas with little or no drilling activity, showed low levels of endocrine-disrupting activity.

The new findings add urgency to calls for moratoriums on fracking until the risks have been fully assessed and regulations and monitoring put in place to safeguard water supplies and public health.

Due to the so-called “Halliburton loophole,” the oil and gas industry is exempt from important requirements under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and states have been slow to fill the regulatory gap.

Colorado, in particular, should exercise the utmost caution.

According to a report by Ceres, a Boston-based non-profit organization that educates investors about corporate environmental risks, 92 percent of Colorado’s shale gas and oil wells are located in “extremely high” water stress regions, defined as areas in which cities, industries and farms are already using 80 percent or more of available water.

Adding contamination risks to the high volume of water fracking wells require – typically 4-6 million gallons per well – argues strongly for a precautionary approach to future development and a pause in existing production until the full range of environmental health risks can be assessed.

But Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has said the state will sue any city that bans fracking within its borders. Indeed, in July 2012, the state sued the front-range town of Longmont, which had issued such a ban.

A statement about the new findings of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in waters near fracking sites issued by Concerned Health Professionals of New York, and posted here, concludes with this warning:

“These results, which are based on validated cell cultures, demonstrate that public health concerns about fracking are well-founded and extend to our hormone systems. The stakes could not be higher. Exposure to EDCs has been variously linked to breast cancer, infertility, birth defects, and learning disabilities. Scientists have identified no safe threshold of exposure for EDCs, especially for pregnant women, infants, and children.”

And environmental health expert Sandra Steingraber writes in a letter posted at the same site:

“[I]t seems to me, the ethical response on the part of the environmental health community is to reissue a call that many have made already: hit the pause button via a national moratorium on high volume, horizontal drilling and fracking and commence a comprehensive Health Impact Assessment with full public participation.”

Fracking Hell: The Untold Story

An original investigative report by Earth Focus and UK’s Ecologist Film Unit looks at the risks of natural gas development in the Marcellus Shale. From toxic chemicals in drinking water to unregulated interstate dumping of potentially radioactive waste that experts fear can contaminate water supplies in major population centers including New York City, are the health consequences worth the economic gains?

Marcellus Shale contains enough natural gas to supply all US gas needs for 14 years. But as gas drilling takes place, using a process called hydraulic fracturing or “fracking,” toxic chemicals and methane gas seep into drinking water. Now experts fear that unacceptable levels of radioactive Radium 226 in gas development waste.

Fracking chemicals are linked to bone, liver and breast cancers, gastrointestinal, circulatory, respiratory, developmental as well as brain and nervous system disorders. Such chemicals are present in frack waste and may find their way into drinking water and air.

Waste from Pennsylvania gas wells — waste that may also contain unacceptable levels of radium — is routinely dumped across state lines into landfills in New York, Ohio and West Virginia. New York does not require testing waste for radioactivity prior to dumping or treatment. So drill cuttings from Pennsylvania have been dumped in New York’s Chemung and other counties and liquid waste is shipped to treatment plants in Auburn and Watertown New York. How radioactive is this waste? Experts are calling are for testing to find out.

New York State may have been the first state in the nation to put a temporary hold on fracking pending a safety review, but it allows other states to dump toxic frack waste within its boundaries.

With a gas production boom underway in the Marcellus Shale and plans for some 400,000 wells in the coming decades, the cumulative impact of dumping potential lethal waste without adequate oversight is a catastrophe waiting to happen. And now U.S. companies are exporting fracking to Europe.

FLUORIDE TEA – THE SODIUM FLUORIDE TEA CONNECTION: The Truth About Tea – It Contains Toxic Sodium Fluoride – “Green Tea Is One Of The Worst!”

Fluorine compounds or fluorides are listed by the US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry(ATSDR) as among the top 20 of 275 substances that pose the most significant threat to human health.

Tea is VERY high in fluoride because tea leaves accumulate more fluoride(from pollution and air) than any other edible plant.”

“Due to industry contamination, fluoride content in tea has risen dramatically over the last 20 years. There is approximately 22.2 mg of fluoride per green tea bag and 17.25 mg per black tea bag.”
“Aluminum content was at 8 mg per bag. One bag of black tea contains as much fluoride as 7.8 liters of fluoridated water.”

Did You Know Green Tea Contains Dangerous Levels of Toxic Sodium Fluoride?

Green tea has emerged as a major natural substance in fighting diseases like heart disease, cancer and helping with weight loss. It’s been mass marketed to billions around the world and many sip it religiously everyday in the hopes that it will make them healthier. All except for one thing, it contains toxic sodium fluoride.

Green tea is one of the worst culprits having double the amount of fluoride as black tea. Brick tea has the highest fluoride concentration and symptoms of fluorosis have been seen in Tibetan children and adults who drink large amounts of this kind of tea.

Tea plants accumulate fluoride in their leaves over time, so the oldest leaves contain the most fluoride, while the youngest contain the least.

Tea Exempt From Contaminant Levels Defined by Government:
Fluoride in tea is much higher than the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set for fluoride in drinking water which is 4 parts per million (ppm). About 50 percent of fluoride (from any source) is deposited in the bone and teeth; the other half is excreted.

The MCL is set so as to only avoid the third and crippling stage of this disease. It is set at 4ppm => 4mg/liter, assuming that people will retain half of this amount (2mg), and therefore be at a “safe” level. The EPA scientists, whose job and legal duty it is to set the MCL, declared that this level was set fraudulently by outside forces, and that 90% of the data showing the mutagenic properties of fluoride were omitted. Chemical toxicologist and former EPA consultant Nancy Webert stated “once that EPA started receiving funding from sources that were not disclosed to the public, fluoride studies and safety limits took a back seat to other interests.” Webert believes the United States Government was fully aware of these foreign interests and did nothing to protect Americans from current levels of fluoride poisoning in drinking water.

How Does Fluoride Affect The Body?:
Tea leaves accumulate more fluoride (from pollution of soil and air) than any other edible plant. Coincidently, fluoride content in tea has risen conconcurrently and dramatically with global tea consumption over the last 20 years.

Drinking high levels of fluoride can cause bone-forming cells to lay down extra skeletal tissue, which increases bone density. At the same time, it also increases bone brittleness that can result in a disease known as skeletal fluorosis. So while bones are more dense, they are also more brittle. Skeletal fluorosis can produce:

Bone, muscle and joint pain
Calcification of ligaments
Bone spurs
Fused vertebrae
Difficulty moving joints

Says Dr. Whyte, “When fluoride gets into your bones, it stays there for years, and there is no established treatment for skeletal fluorosis, No one knows if you can fully recover from it.” In other words, fluoride accumulates in your body.

According to one estimate, the first phase of skeletal fluorosis could easily develop in as few as five years if a person were to consume the amount of fluoride found in three or four cups of green tea every day.

While in 1976 a Belgian analysis showed content of between 50 and 125 ppm fluoride in 15 varieties of tea, a Polish study in 1995 found fluoride content of up to 340 ppm in 16 varieties of black tea. A major Canadian study published in 1995 reports average fluoride content in tea to be 4.57 mg/l in the 1980’s., a pro-fluoridation infant medical group lists a cup of black tea to contain 7.8 mgs of fluoride, which is roughly the same amount as if one were to drink 7.8 litres of water in an area fluoridated at 1ppm.

Virtually every company selling green tea advertises it’s high fluoride content as “beneficial” in preventing cavities, promulgating the misleading and false data supplied for the last 50 years by the ADA/CDA and other dental health trade organizations, as well as various public health agencies. There are NO double-blind studies anywhere proving the efficacy of fluoride as a caries preventative. There ARE double-blind studies proving adverse health effects, at the level of 1ppm (1mg/l) in water. There are no studies documenting safety at any intake level.

Drinking a cup of tea with fluoride content as mentioned above (7.8mg) would mean a fluoride intake much higher than amounts which were actually given as medication to treat hyperthyroidism (over-functioning thyroid) for numerous decades – in several countries – specifically to reduce thyroid activity.

To make matters much worse for human health, fluorides in teas are found together with aluminum. The combination of aluminum and fluorides in tea is of urgent concern, due to the increased damage done by fluorides when in the presence of aluminum, especially neurological and renal damage. It also increases the extent to which aluminum can be absorbed by the body, which has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

Aluminum by itself is not readily absorbed by the body, however in the presence of fluoride ions, the fluoride ions combine with the aluminum to form aluminum fluoride, which is absorbed by the body. Aluminum eventually combines with oxygen to form aluminum oxide or alumina. Alumina is the compound of aluminum that is found in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease.

Tea, fluoride, and wild alternatives
Arthur Haines

Wed, 13 Feb 2013 12:17 CST

Tea, including black, green, white, and oolong varieties, is prepared from the leaves of a shrub native to Asia called Camellia sinensis. It is a well-known hot beverage and is consumed in many households as a replacement for or in addition to the other common, hot beverage of the United States – coffee (made from the seeds of Coffea arabica). Tea is considered to be a beneficial drink and is known to contain antioxidants (e.g., epigallocatechin gallate). However, most are unaware that cultivated tea plants accumulate fluoride, a central nervous system toxin that accumulates in the body. We are told our entire lives that fluoride is beneficial for cavity prevention (through hardening of the enamel of our teeth). What we are never told is that fluoride is not used by our body in any natural physiological pathway and that there are health effects to its consumption, including dental and skeletal fluorosis, osteoarthritis, thyroid issues, endocrine disruption, immune system suppression, and several nervous system effects. And though it does harden the enamel of our teeth, it also makes them more brittle and susceptible to breakage. I do not expect a simple listing of the health issues to make you reconsider your family’s use of fluoride; therefore, you may find the following numbers informative.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has set standards for the amount of fluoride that can be present in drinking water because it is known to cause harm at high doses. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) was set at 4 parts per million (ppm). At that level, a person would consume 4 mg per liter of water each day (this assumes they consume only four cups of water each day). Studies show that people are actually consuming nearly 8 mg per day, which is twice the MCL set by the USEPA. Read carefully: this amount is higher than the amount provided when fluoride is used to treat hyperthyroidism (i.e., an over-functioning thyroid). Therefore, consuming fluoridated water at this level depresses thyroid function, which can create many issues, including memory problems, weight gain, depression, apathy, fatigue, constipation, skin problems, sexual dysfunction, loss of ability to concentrate, and more.

Here are some additional results of studies regarding fluoride’s health effects:

> fluoride accumulates in the bones, leading to brittleness, and studies show higher incidence of hip fractures in areas with fluoridated water;

> fluoride likely contributes to cancer – males living in fluoridated areas have a 6.9-fold increase in bone cancer rates;

> fluoride contributes to learning disabilities and leads to lower IQ scores in children exposed to fluoride;

> fluoride positively affects the rate at which aluminum (another neurotoxin) is absorbed by the body, meaning that the central nervous system effects are actually greater than the measured effects of fluoride alone.

For these reasons (and many more), I do not use any product that contains fluoride and will not drink fluoridated water. Fluoride is a cumulative neurotoxin that should not be added to our water supply or dental products.

Tea plants are known to accumulate both fluoride and aluminum in their leaves. It has recently been learned that the amounts of these minerals are much higher than previously thought because they combine to create aluminum fluoride, a compound that was not detected by former test methods. In one study, seven brands of tea were tested using new methodology, and all brands contained significant amounts of fluoride and aluminum (1.4 – 3.3 times more than formerly reported). Decaffeinated tea can be worse because fluoridated water is often used in the process of removing the alkaloid caffeine. If you are wondering about differences between conventionally grown and organically grown tea – studies are lacking. Preliminary evidence suggests that tea is a natural bioaccumulator of fluoride, so that while organically grown plants have less fluoride, they still contain elevated levels in their leaves (conventionally grown plants apparently obtain additional fluoride in the fertilizer that is used). Therefore, I turn to the local landscape to provide me with healthful tea plants. Here are four of my favorite species to collect and some of their known benefits.

stinging nettle (Urtica dioica)

Many people are intimidated by stinging nettle, but this is my most frequently consumed wild tea. We gather this in quantity so it can be enjoyed throughout the year. Stinging nettle is a tall, unbranched or sparingly branched perennial herb that is often found associated with open areas near moderate-sized to large rivers. It also sometimes occurs as a weed in areas of cultivation. It has stinging hairs that create a painful, itchy sensation when the plant is contacted by bare skin. Despite this, it is well worth gathering and becomes completely innocuous once dried (i.e., the stinging hairs are no longer potent). Use gloves if you need, though it is possible to collect this with bare hands. Stinging nettle is a nutrient-dense plant and tea made from the dried leaves provides several benefits, including lowering elevated blood pressure, reducing the severity of allergic symptoms (i.e., it is anti-allergenic), reducing pain associated with arthritis, promoting healthy skin, and serving as a general tonic for good health. I consider this plant to also have a role in cleansing due to its mild diuretic effect (and effect that also helps prevent kidney stones). The flavor of stinging nettle tea is mild and it has a wonderful dark green color. This species is treated in detail in the first volume of Ancestral Plants.

narrow-leaved fireweed (Chamaenerion angustifolium)

Narrow-leaved fireweed is a species of open areas, often found in fields, along roadsides, and on recently cleared lands. Its magenta flowers make it conspicuous and easy to find when in bloom. This plant has had a number of taxonomic changes, so you may find it in your references under the scientific name Epilobium angustifolium and Chamerion angustifolium. Narrow-leaved fireweed has been used as an adulterant in black tea. It has many documented health benefits, including being a powerful antioxidant, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial (with action against viruses), an anti-inflammatory, and an astringent (the latter two actions helping to reduce swelling and assist with many ailments, including arthritis). I generally gather this species when in flower and use both the leaves and flowers for making infusions. This species is also treated in detail in the first volume of Ancestral Plants.

selfheal (Prunella vulgaris)

This common member of the mint family is regularly found on lawns, in fields, along roadsides, and in many types of open areas. It flowers much of early and middle summer, forming relatively dense arrays of blue flowers. Selfheal has long been considered a general tonic for good health. Some research has uncovered its ability to maintain health through its effect on endogenous antioxidants (antioxidants that our bodies produce). It has been found that selfheal boosts levels of super oxide dismutase and prevents depletion of glutathione, two important and powerful antioxidants produced within us (they are extremely important to maintenance of our health). It also supplies several water-soluble antioxidants. Collectively, these free-radical fighting compounds contribute to decreased risk of cancer and protection from UVA (the strongest portion of ultraviolet light produced by the sun) and human-generated radiation. Selfheal is also documented to promote oral health through several pathways, including preventing bacterial plaque formation. It is also beneficial for the lymphatic system and has been shown to be anti-allergenic. Again, I make tea from this species using the dried leaves and flowers.

American linden (Tilia americana)

This tree is a species of deciduous forests, most common along moderate-sized to major rivers and rich, rocky slopes. It is easily recognized by its large, somewhat heart-shaped leaves that are asymmetrical. It flowers in the early summer and the entire array of flowers, along with the narrow bract that subtends the flower array, are gathered for tea. American linden is rich in mucilage, so the mild-flavored tea has a particular texture that is different from other teas. The flowers contain a sweet of polyphenols that are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cleansing, and able to lower elevated blood pressure. In addition, the mild sedative quality (i.e., relaxing) makes this plant a valuable protector of the heart, especially for people living with stress, and helps promote restful sleep. Further, emerging research suggests this plant is hepatoprotective, meaning it protects the liver from damage from medical drugs, toxins, and diseases.

Preparation (in brief)

Collecting your own plants for tea is relatively easy. For some, the most difficult step will be learning where to find the plants in a clean area that occur in numbers sufficient to support collection. I prefer to gather them in the summer, when the plants have accumulated their full component of medicine but not so late as to become damaged, blighted, and otherwise ratty from herbivores, fungal pathogens, etc. The process is: gather, dry, reduce, store. Tall plants are cut or carefully broken, bundled together, and hung to dry. Shorter plants and flowers I often place on an elevated screen to dry. I often dry them outside, bringing them in at night so that the dew doesn’t re-wet them. If you dry the plant material inside, find a warm, low-humidity spot. When the leaves/flowers are dry and brittle, the plants are ready for the next step (this usually takes only a few days in good weather). The very dry leaves insure that the material won’t mold and facilitates reducing it in size so you can maximize surface area for extraction. Wait for a dry, sunny day so you can strip leaves and flowers from the harder stems and then crumble the leaves/flowers up with your hands (if it is very humid or has been raining, the leaves/flowers will be flexible and won’t crumble well). Take all of the reduced (i.e., chopped or crumbled) material and place it in an airtight container out of the light. Now you have tea whenever you need it that brings with it many health benefits. Further, on those cold winter nights, you can reminisce about the summer days when you collected these plants. Of course, each plant has its own intricacies regarding collection and preparation. But the overall process is relatively simple and adds to your family’s self-reliance.

but only provides a hint of what Prunella vulgaris can/will do for the body. It prevents estrogen-induced cancers; protects the cells’ mitochondria. Immune stimulant that mobilizes NK (natural killer) cells; protects red blood cells against hemolysis; protects the brain and kidneys against lipid peroxidation. It inhibits histamine release, suppressing allergic reaction. Prunella is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral. Inhibits HIV and Herpes replication: will control all manifestations of Herpes, including shingles and herpetic keratosis. It cripples a crucial step in the HIV replication process. It will reverse medication-induced memory problems. Prunella decreases acetylcholinesterase activity for the treatment of Alzheimers; it breaks up amyloid-beta conglomerates inside AND outside the cells, meaning if consumed in large enough daily amounts, it will arrest and reverse Alzheimer’s disease—all with no toxins or side effects.

Additional Natural Tea Idea’s:

Ginger Tea:

Treat yourself to a cup of piping hot ginger tea, a healthy drink that’s great for digestion. Why go out and buy old tea bags when you can easily make your own homemade ginger tea at home using fresh ginger? Here’s how to make the tastiest ginger tea you’ve ever had!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

4-6 thin slices raw ginger
1 1/2 – 2 cups water
juice from 1/2 lime, or to taste
1-2 tbsp honey or agave nectar, or to taste

Peel the ginger and slice thinly to maximize the surface area. This will help you make a very flavorful ginger tea.

Boil the ginger in water for at least 10 minutes. For a stronger and tangier tea, allow to boil for 20 minutes or more, and use more slices of ginger.

Is Green Tea Dangerous For Some People?

Sodium Fluoride in Black/Green Tea

By Lynn Daniluk

If you are unwilling to drink a glass of fluoridated water from a city tap, then you should think twice about drinking green or black tea.

According to the City of Ottawa website,

“In September 2009, the City of Ottawa reduced the target level of fluoride in drinking water to 0.70 mg/L in response to the new level recommended by Health Canada. These changes were made under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health.” (1)

According to the calculations made by the Oregon State University’s “Linus Pauling Institute Micronutrient Research Centre” (2) all tea has a higher level of sodium fluoride that the City of Ottawa’s fluoridated drinking water. The levels per liter will depend on the length of time the tea is steeped but even a 5 minute brew will give you a higher level than Ottawa’s City water. These calculations were made from tea that was brewed without fluoridated water so those levels would be compounded. It is important to note that the Linus Pauling Institute website does not have a problem with fluoridation as they feel it prevents tooth decay so they would not be trying to reduce the numbers in order to make the situation look better. Besides, these levels have been confirmed by other studies done in China, Turkey (7) and India.

Sodium Fluoride Content of Teas

Green 1.2-1.7 mg/L

Oolong 0.6-1.0 mg/L

Black 1.0-1.9 mg/L

Brick tea 2.2-7.3 mg/L

*Fluoride in 1% weight/volume tea prepared by continuous infusion from 5 to 360 minutes

It is interesting to note that the initial level of fluoride in green tea is higher that black tea so the concept that green is better than black does not hold water.

My next concern is the level of aluminium in tea that compounds the effects of sodium fluoride. Once you start to look into studies you realize that scientists are talking about aluminium and fluoride together in the same sentence. (3, 4) This has far reaching implications that go beyond the idea that a bit of fluoride helps tooth enamel.

It is also important to not overlook the effects of caffeine on the uptake of sodium fluoride. In their on-line drug reference manual ‘Pharmacokinetics’ section, the Medscape website states, “some studies suggested that oral bioavailability of fluoride may increase with concomitant administration of caffeine.” (5) While it appears that caffeine can increase the absorption rate of sodium fluoride in the body, decaffeination does not solve this problem. One study showed how the process of decaffeination actually increased the level of sodium fluoride in the tea. (6)

A 2009 study conducted in Turkey showed that “herbal and fruit infusions were characterized by low values of fluoride (0.02–0.04 mg/L) after 5 min of brewing and increasing brewing time to 10 min caused only slight increases in some infusions.”(7) Tea grown in the same area had a very large amount of fluoride by comparison. It appears that the tea plant has the specific ability to absorb sodium fluoride and aluminium from the environment that other plants do not possess. It does not a matter what is put on the plant in the way of pesticides, herbicides or fertilizer, the plant collects these toxic minerals from the soil and water. In other words drinking organic tea may not be helpful in this case. It is also hard to know what constitutes ‘organic’ in places such as China, Turkey, Sri Lanka, India and Kenya. Though the tea plants may not be sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, etc. the soil and water the plants grow in is contaminated.

According to Dr. Michael P. Whyte, M.D. Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics & Genetics and Medical-Scientific Director, Center for Metabolic Bone Disease and Molecular Research, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Louis, “The tea plant is known to accumulate fluoride from the soil and water,” (8)

This is the doctor who conducted the study on Skeletal Fluorosis and green/black tea. (9)

“Says Dr. Whyte, “When fluoride gets into your bones, it stays there for years, and there is no established treatment for skeletal fluorosis. No one knows if you can fully recover from it.” In other words, fluoride accumulates in your body.” (8)

It is known that fluroride has an effect on thyroid function. After reviewing the evidence I would suggest that those with thyroid issues consider limiting their use of green tea and green tea products. For more information check out this particularly well written article: [ Green Tea, Fluoride & the Thyroid ]

You can rid you body of most fluorides with some easy natural remedies. Fluorides have been linked to a variety of severe chronic, even acute health issues. First a quick review summary of fluoride. Fluoride is a soluble salt, not a heavy metal. There are two basic types of fluoride. Calcium fluoride appears naturally in underground water sources and even seawater. Enough of it can cause skeletal or dental fluorosis, which weakens bone and dental matter. But it is not nearly as toxic, nor does it negatively affect so many other health issues as sodium fluoride, which is added to many water supplies.

Sodium Fluoride is a synthetic waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, and phosphate fertilizer industries. This fluoride has an amazing capacity to combine and increase the potency of other toxic materials. The sodium fluoride obtained from industrial waste and added to water supplies is also already contaminated with lead, aluminum, and cadmium. It damages the liver and kidneys, weakens the immune system, possibly leading to cancer, creates symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia, and performs as a Trojan Horse to carry aluminum across the blood brain barrier. The latter is recognized as a source of the notorious “dumbing down” with lower IQ’s and Alzheimer’s effects of fluoride.

Another not commonly known organ victim of fluorosis is the pineal gland, located in the middle of the brain. The pineal gland can become calcified from fluorides, inhibiting it’s function as a melatonin producer. Melatonin is needed for sound, deep sleep, and the lack of it also contributes to thyroid problems that affect the entire endocrine system. The pineal gland is also considered the physical link to the upper chakras or third eye for spiritual and intuitive openings.

Various permutations of Sodium Fluoride are also in many insecticides for homes and pesticides for crops. Sometimes it is even added to baby foods and bottled waters. If you live in a water fluoridated area, purchase commercially grown fruits, especially grapes, and vegetables that are chemically sprayed and grown areas irrigated by fluoridated water, you are getting a triple whammy! Better skip that fluoridated toothpaste!

As always, the first step in detoxifying is to curb taking in toxins. Purifying water by reverse osmosis or distillation in fluoridated water communities is a good start to slowing down your fluoride contamination. Distillation comes with a bit of controversy, as all the minerals are removed. A great mineral supplement such as Fulvic Acid (not folic acid) or unsulfured blackstrap molasses is recommended if you distill your water.

Avoiding sprayed, commercially grown foods while consuming organic or locally grown foods is another big step. Watch out for processed foods such as instant tea, grape juice products, and soy milk for babies. They all contain high concentrations of sodium fluoride. So do many pharmaceutical “medicines”. By minimizing your sodium fluoride intake, your body can begin eliminating the fluorides in your system slowly. Magnesium is a very important mineral that many are lacking. Besides being so important in the metabolism and synthesis of nutrients within your cells, it also inhibits the absorption of fluoride into your cells! Along with magnesium, calcium seems to help attract the fluorides away from your bones and teeth, allowing your body to eliminate those toxins. So during any detox efforts with fluoride, it is essential that you include a healthy supplemental dose of absorbable calcium/magnesium as part of the protocol.

So Now Let’s Speed Up the Fluoride Detox. This author received a comment stating that an earlier article’s source reference to sunlight for decalcifying the pineal gland was inaccurate. He said that darkness, not light, is needed to stimulate the pineal gland into melatonin production, which should lead to breaking up the calcification of that gland. Besides being logical, further source research indicates the critic is correct! Day time exercise, a healthful diet, not over eating, and meditation all contribute to higher melatonin production from the pineal gland. Though very helpful to many for getting a full night’s deep sleep, it appears inconclusive whether melatonin supplements will help decalcify the pineal gland.
But it does seem logical that it might.

Iodine supplementation has been clinically demonstrated to increase the urine irrigation of sodium fluoride from the body as calcium fluoride. The calcium is robbed from your body, so make sure you are taking effective calcium and magnesium supplements. Lecithin is recommended as an adjunct to using iodine for excreting fluorides. Iodine is another nutrient lacking in most diets and causing hypothyroid symptoms of lethargy or metabolic imbalances. Eating lots of seafood for iodine has it’s constantly rising mercury hazards. Seaweed foods and iodine supplements that combine iodine and potassium iodide are highly recommended over sea food by most.

Tamarind, originally indigenous to Africa but migrated into India and southeast Asia, has been used medicinally in Ayurvedic Medicine. The pulp, bark, and leaves from the tree can be converted to teas and strong tinctures, which have also shown the ability to eliminate fluorides through the urine. Liver Cleanses are considered effective for eliminating fluorides and other toxins. There are two types of liver cleansing, both of which can be performed easily at home over a week or two of time. One of the protocols focuses on the liver itself , and the other cleanses the gall bladder, which is directly connected with liver functions. Simple instructions for both can be found on line with search engine inquiries.

Boron was studied in other parts of the world with pronounced success for fluoride detoxification. Borox, which contains boron, has a history of anecdotal success for detoxifying sodium fluoride. Yes, this is the borox you can find in the laundry aisles of some supermarkets. It needs to be taken in with pure water in small quantities. As little as 1/32 of a teaspoon to 1/4 of a teaspoon in one liter of water consumed in small quantities throughout the day is what has been demonstrated as safe and effective. Around 1/8 of a teaspoon with a pinch of pure sea salt in a liter consumed in small quantities daily has been reported to have dramatic results. There is the possibility of a food grade version with sodium borate, if you can find it.

Dry Saunas combined with exercise releases sodium fluoride stored in fatty tissues. It can be intense enough to cause side effects or an occasional healing crisis. So keep the pure water intake high and drink some chickweed tea to protect the kidneys while using a highly absorbable cal/mag supplement. Lecithin is another useful adjunct to this protocol for fluoride detoxification.

Vitamin C in abundance was not mentioned as a helpful adjunct. It is now. But do not use ascorbic acid as your vitamin C source for an adjunct to any of the fluoride detox methods. Do take in as much other types of vitamin C as you can tolerate, along with a couple of tablespoons of lecithin daily. Add those to your absorbable calcium and magnesium supplements with plenty of pure water, get good sleep and rest, and the detox should be relatively smooth. Chelation therapies are recommended primarily for heavy metal removals. Though fluorides are salts, the synthetic waste product variety, sodium fluoride, comes with a cargo of toxic heavy metals. And these pernicious salts have a way of combining more heavy metals. So including any one of several chelation therapies may be beneficial for overall health improvements while applying your chosen fluoride remedy or remedies.

Those include bentonite clay internally or externally, fulvic acid (NOT folic acid), cilantro pesto with chlorella, and even DMSA or any other chellation therapy with which you are familiar.

SELF-DRIVING CARS ARE HERE!: Mercedes, BWW, Audi And The Toyota GoogleMobile “Nevada Approves Self-Driving Cars”

Auto Correct
Has the self-driving car at last arrived?
by Burkhard Bilger November 25, 2013

Human beings make terrible drivers. They talk on the phone and run red lights, signal to the left and turn to the right. They drink too much beer and plow into trees or veer into traffic as they swat at their kids. They have blind spots, leg cramps, seizures, and heart attacks. They rubberneck, hotdog, and take pity on turtles, cause fender benders, pileups, and head-on collisions. They nod off at the wheel, wrestle with maps, fiddle with knobs, have marital spats, take the curve too late, take the curve too hard, spill coffee in their laps, and flip over their cars. Of the ten million accidents that Americans are in every year, nine and a half million are their own damn fault.

A case in point: The driver in the lane to my right. He’s twisted halfway around in his seat, taking a picture of the Lexus that I’m riding in with an engineer named Anthony Levandowski. Both cars are heading south on Highway 880 in Oakland, going more than seventy miles an hour, yet the man takes his time. He holds his phone up to the window with both hands until the car is framed just so. Then he snaps the picture, checks it onscreen, and taps out a lengthy text message with his thumbs. By the time he puts his hands back on the wheel and glances up at the road, half a minute has passed.

Levandowski shakes his head. He’s used to this sort of thing. His Lexus is what you might call a custom model. It’s surmounted by a spinning laser turret and knobbed with cameras, radar, antennas, and G.P.S. It looks a little like an ice-cream truck, lightly weaponized for inner-city work. Levandowski used to tell people that the car was designed to chase tornadoes or to track mosquitoes, or that he belonged to an élite team of ghost hunters. But nowadays the vehicle is clearly marked: “Self-Driving Car.”

We announced our self-driving car project in 2010 to make driving safer, more enjoyable, and more efficient.

Having safely completed over 200,000 miles of computer-led driving, we wanted to share one of our favorite moments. Here’s Steve, who joined us for a special drive on a carefully programmed route to experience being behind the wheel in a whole new way.

We organized this test as a technical experiment, but we think it’s also a promising look at what autonomous technology may one day deliver if rigorous technology and safety standards can be met.

Mercedes-Benz reveals recent test of self-driving car

By David Undercoffler – September 10, 2013

In yet another sign that self-driving cars are rapidly approaching reality, Mercedes-Benz announced Monday that it had successfully driven an autonomous S-Class sedan 62 miles on German city streets.

The test, which happened at the end of August, used a full-size 2014 S500 with only slight modifications beyond what is available on the production car. The route took the car from Mannheim to Pforzheim, Germany, and traveled through both city and highway conditions on open city roads.

“For us, autonomous vehicles are an important step on the way to accident-free driving,” said Dieter Zetsche, chief executive of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz. “They will bring greater comfort and safety for all road users.”

Mercedes isn’t the only company taking a serious look at self-driving cars. Nissan, Volvo, Audi, General Motors, Ford and Toyota are among the automakers working to bring the technology to the road. Many say they will do so before 2020.

Many luxury cars available today come with features that will serve as the underlying technology for these vehicles. Lane departure warning and assist systems keep vehicles in their lanes, adaptive cruise control can take cars from zero mph up to cruising speed without driver assistance and proactive braking systems will slow the vehicle before the driver has time to react.

Since the 2014 S-Class (which will go on sale in the U.S. in October as the S550) is available with many of these features, upgrading the test vehicle was a straightforward process.

Mercedes added two long-range radar systems to the front and one to the rear of the car, four short-range radar systems for the corners of the vehicle, a camera to detect traffic lights, and an additional camera aimed out the rear window to scan the surroundings and compare them to a previously installed 3-D digital map.

By using this final camera, Mercedes said it was possible to determine the car’s specific location more accurately than is possible with just GPS. Mercedes created these digital maps with the help of a division of Nokia, with the automaker saying the two would continue to develop 3-D maps for future autonomous cars.

Despite Mercedes’ preparation for the route, the automaker admitted that there were still kinks in the system to work out. Among these are how to communicate with other vehicles on the road, such as at intersections where another car or pedestrian waves the autonomous vehicle through.

“This sometimes results in comical situations,” said Ralf Herrtwich, head of driver assistance and suspension systems at Daimler. He pointed out that there were situation where “the vehicle gets waved through by the pedestrian — yet our car stoically continues to wait, because we failed to anticipate such politeness when we programmed the system.”

Other hurdles for self-driving cars include being allowed on public roads. In the U.S., only California, Nevada and Florida currently allow driverless cars. In Europe, the laws allow “corrective steering functions” but not automated steering above 6.2 mph, Mercedes said.

Furthermore, European Union law dictates that a driver be in constant control of the vehicle and able to override the autonomous system at any time, the automaker said.

“As autonomous vehicles were still out of the question at the time this convention was adopted, clarification is needed with regard to what this means for highly or fully automated vehicles,” Mercedes said.

BMW Autonomous Car Future Hands Free Driving

Nevada embraces the future, approves self-driving cars

The state that makes its livelihood off gambling is making a safe bet that self-driving cars won’t cause mayhem on the highways of Nevada. The Silver State just set up rules for driverless cars after the legislature approved the concept last year. Among the rules: Self-driving cars get red license plates in Nevada if they’re test vehicles, and there still has to be a driver behind the wheel. Right now it’s a pro-business move, to entice automakers to test autonomous driving vehicles in wide-open Nevada as they already do for mainstream cars. Down the road, the rules will be in place when they go on sale to the public.

How safe are self-driving cars? Google wants to rack up 1 million test miles, and so far its fleet of cars has suffered one fender-bender accident, and that was with the self-driving car under the control of a human.

Since 2000, the idea of a self-driving car has gone from never, to maybe-in-our-lifetime, to end-of-the-decade. Sensor technology is moving ahead at a Moore’s law pace. It picked up steam when newcomers (Google) got in the game played previously by automakers and a handful of research universities (Stanford and Carnegie-Mellon as the main players, along with Cornell, MIT, and Virginia Tech).

Google’s self-driving car, with Schmidt, Page, and BrinEven now, passenger cars have enough technology to be self-driving on non-twisty rural interstates by combining adaptive cruise control (ACC) that paces you with the car in front and slows or stops when it does, and lane keep assist (LKA) or lane departure warning that watches via a single on-board camera to see if you’re centered between the lane markings and steers you back into lane if you let the car drift. Automakers that have both are adding features to keep you from trying to make the car self-driving, typically by looking for the constant small corrections a driver makes even when driving along an arrow-straight road. If there are none and the driver is probably trying to create a self-driving car ahead of its time, the car turns off lane keep assist and beeps to say, “Bad boy.”

Cars sold as self-driving would have to be an order of magnitude more complex than ACC-LKA cars, with multiple cameras, radars and sensors to help negotiate curves, sense traffic lights, and avoid cars cutting in front. But they’ve come a long way from the early DARPA challenges when they were stalling, crashing, and mostly getting overwhelmed in simple desert settings. Now a self-driving Audi TT (pictured above) has climbed Pikes Peak and dealt with negative obstacles, such as a cliff with no guardrail. It’s hard for sensors to register something that’s not there. The direction of self-driving cars is that they’re autonomous. The idea of them being guided by sensors in the roadbed is pretty much ancient history.

Warm weather states such as Nevada and Arizona are popular for testing because test drivers encounter less traffic and potentially fewer spy photographers. The wide-open states have also attracted individuals doing private testing at super-legal speeds, much to the annoyance of authorities.

BENGALI FAMINE BENGALI HOLOCAUST: 6-7 Million Indians Killed By UK And Australia In WW2, 1942-1945 – True Democracy Party

ABC CENSORS BENGALI FAMINE: 6-7 million Indians killed by UK and Australia in WW2, 1942-1945

The neocon-infested, taxpayer-funded ABC (the Australian equivalent of the UK BBC) has an appalling record of censorship, lying by omission and lying by commission. The ABC has to a significant degree censored reportage of the Australia-complicit 1942-1945 Bengal Famine (Bengali Famine, Bengali Holocaust) in which the British, with Australian complicity, deliberately starved 6-7 million Indians to death in 1942-1945.

India contributed an army of 2.4 million men to assist the British war effort in World War 2. However India was rewarded by a British-imposed Bengal Famine (Bengali Holocaust, Indian Holocaust) that killed 6-7 million Indians in Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Orissa in the period 1942-1945. Australia was a major supplier of wheat but deliberately by-passed starving India , this boosting British food stocks and what was evidently a starvation-based military strategy to prevent Japanese advance into Bengal .

While there was no catastrophic decline in the amount of rice or other grain available in Bengal, the price of rice edged up slightly during 1942 and by December 1942 the wholesale price of rice in Calcutta had increased to be double that in December 1941. By mid-1943 it had doubled again to be over 4 times greater than the price in December 1941. As analyzed by Economics Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen ( Cambridge and Harvard) the Bengal Famine derived from a cashed-up Calcutta , a major industrial city involved in a war production boom, sucking rice out of a starving, rice-producing countryside.

A variety of factors contributed to the greatly increased market price of rice but the absolute amount of rice and other grain was not a critical determinant as has been argued from a superficial analysis of the situation. There was grain available to alleviate the problem but the in late 1941 British gave Indian provinces autonomy over their food stocks, this contributing to the huge price increase in Bengal. Other factors included small decreases in the Bengal rice harvest due to fungal infestation and storm; loss of rice imports from Burma (that had been conquered by the Japanese); British violence in West Bengal that impaired rice production, storage and availability; British seizure of local food stocks; British seizure and destruction of Bengali boats crucial for income generation and food distribution (a measure ostensibly directed against possible Japanese invasion from Burma); a halving of shipping in the Indian Ocean in 1943 due to losses in the Atlantic; hoarding by fearful or greedy Indians that was enabled by British policy; failure to declare famine under the British India Famine Code; and the resolute refusal of the British to permit significant grain imports (see Gideon Polya, “Australia and Britain killed 6-7milion Indians in WW2 Bengal Famine”, Countercurrents, 29 September 2011: ).

While this horrendous atrocity has been almost completely white-washed out of British history, some historians and scholars have told the truth:

A window on the grievous deficiencies of the ABC is provided by the ABC itself. When you Google “ABC News” and go the ABC News Homepage (see: you will find a “Search ABC” device at the top right hand corner. This enables one to search “the entire ABC site” for what the ABC reports, does not report and no longer reports. ABC Searches for the terms “Bengali Famine”, “Bengali Holocaust” and “Bengal Famine” yield 1 (due to me), 2 (due to me) and 10 results (3 are due to me and another 3 to listener comments) , respectively; if you Google these terms you find (April 2012) about 9,000, 11,000 and 122,000 results, respectviely

This is all (apart from listener comments) that the ABC now reveals about this atrocity that killed 6-7 million Indians in WW2:

1. ABC TV Lateline, 14 May 2001, “Nobel Prize for Economics”: : “BRETT EVANS: Sen’s interests in the economics of development was first sparked by the poverty he observed first hand as a boy in his native India, particularly the Bengal famine of 1943.

PROFESSOR ROBIN JEFFREY: The stories you read of that famine are of people dying on the streets, bodies being taken every morning, having to be taken away because people were simply dying of starvation.

PROFESSOR RAGHBENDRA JHA, AUSTRALIA SOUTH ASIA RESEARCH CENTRE: It left a permanent scar in the minds of sensitive people like Amartya Sen.

It left a permanent scar on the cultural landscape of Bengal and for that matter India.

BRETT EVANS: Sen argues that such disasters occur not through lack of of food but political will.

He famously wrote that a famine has never occurred in a functioning democracy.

And Sen argued his case with a sort of hard data his fellow economists respect.”

2. Vandana Shiva, “Global capital, local responses” (see: ): “In India you couldn’t own land as private property. The saying we have is sabhi bhoomi Gopal ki! You know, “the land belongs to the creator”. You can use it and it’s absolutely the same for the Aboriginal people here. You can’t own land, you can’t buy and sell it.

The British created a group of owners of land who would then be the rent collectors, who would then finance the empire and meantime people were losing their land.

And this had simultaneous impact on hunger because if all your surplus is being extracted to pay taxes then the very producers of food go hungry, which is why 2 million people died in the Bengal famine of 1942. Not because there wasn’t enough rice in India — we were exporting rice for the war — but because of the way the free trade rights of commerce were higher than the rights of people to eat.

And the entire force of the British empire was being used to extract the last amount of paddy from the peasants. We had at that point a wonderful women’s movement called tib-haaga, and the women would basically blockade their paddy and say we won’t let you take it, you can’t forcefully take away our produce, we would rather give our lives than give our rice.

And if that direct action of that kind that eventually brought the changes of the ’40s. And after ’47, when we got independence, we ensured that noone could own more than a certain amount of land. Laws that were called land ceiling, Seventeen acres under irrigated conditions, not very much — which makes every farmer in India a small farmer — unless they’re lying and putting cats and dogs as owners of pieces of their farm, which also happens in places.

The second thing that was done was a universal right to food, and one of our economists got a Nobel Prize three years ago, Amartya Sen, who wrote a book on food and famine in which he talked about why after independence in India there had been no famines and why there had been such huge famines in China.

And he traced it down to food entitlements and food rights that our systems had democratically been shaped to ensure that everyone got food. ”

3. In 1999 the ABC permitted me to make a broadcast “Bengali Famine” (see: )

Below is the transcript of 21 February 1999 ABC Radio National talk “Bengali Famine” (see: ).

“Gideon Polya: Humanity has made immense technological and scientific advances in the last few millennia through application of a scientific method involving the gathering of data, the generation of testable hypotheses, and experimentation to test the validity of such hypotheses. Reiteration of this process yields models that are progressively better approximations to reality.

Of course historically, this process has been impaired through authoritarian religious or political intervention. Such societal constraints aside, application of the scientific method can also encounter difficulties when past processes of the physical or biological world are considered. However, while we cannot recreate the explosion of a star, we can construct models that are consistent with the residual physical consequences of such events and with our current understanding of physical reality. Similarly, while we cannot recreate life currently, to biological scientists the Darwinian Theory of Evolution remains a powerful model explaining and systematising a huge body of information about past and present biological complexity.

Scientific approaches to human history are similarly constrained by the reality that it is generally not possible to do physical experiments to test historical models (although one can envisage, for example, computer simulations of past battles). In general the history is confined to relating model predictions back to pre-existing data, the physical consequences of events and human oral and written records of events. Of course value judgements, or culturally and philosophically biased ‘weightings’ will inevitably be applied to the relative importance of historical data. However some events involving massive loss of human life, such as the Jewish Holocaust, are so immense that they cannot be ignored, if at least for scientific predictive utility. Thus the Jewish Holocaust warns us of future dangers due to racism, moral unresponsiveness and the technological capacity for mass destruction.

The bottom line is that historians, like scientists, must respect the basic data. Selectively ignoring the data thwarts the quest for better approximations to the truth, and jeopardises informed prediction. While we all cynically accept the truism that ‘history is written by the victors’, the history of genocide in the 20th century, from South West Africa and Anatolia, to East Timor and Rwanda, reinforces the message that ‘history ignored yields history repeated’. Deletion of massive man-made human catastrophes from history and from general perception is not simply scientifically flawed and unethical, it also increases the probability that the same unaddressed, contributing social pathologies will yield the same carnage in the future.

One of the most extraordinary examples of such whitewashing of history is the sustained, continuing deletion of two centuries of massive, recurrent, man-made famine in British India from British and world history, and hence from general public perception. This massive, sustained lying by omission by two centuries of British academic historians occurred in a society having Parliamentary democracy, the means to readily disseminate information and a steadily expanding literate population. Furthermore, this process of lying by omission continues to this day in Britain and its English-speaking offshoots, such as Australia, countries having free speech, high literacy, democracy, prosperity and extensive media of all kinds.

To dramatise this perversion, imagine that the Jewish Holocaust was almost completely deleted from our history books and from general public perception, that there was virtually a total absence of any mention at all of this cataclysm in our newspapers and electronic media or in our schools and universities. Truth, reason, ethics and humanity aside, objective analysis suggests that such a situation would greatly increase the probability of recurrence of racial mass murder. Fortunately, in reality, virtually everyone is aware of this event and indeed in Germany today it is a criminal offence to deny the actuality of the Jewish Holocaust.

In contrast, during the Second World War, a man-made catastrophe occurred within the British Empire that killed almost as many people as died in the Jewish Holocaust, but which has been effectively deleted from history, it is a ‘forgotten holocaust’. The man-made famine in British-ruled Bengal in 1943-1944 ultimately took the lives of about 4-million people, about 90% of the total British Empire casualties of that conflict, and was accompanied by a multitude of horrors, not the least being massive civilian and military sexual abuse of starving women and young girls that compares unfavourable with the comfort women abuses of the Japanese Army.

The causes of the famine are complex, but ultimately when the price of rice rose above the ability of landless rural poor to pay and in the absence of humane, concerned government, millions simply starved to death or otherwise died of starvation-related causes. Although there was plenty of food potentially available, the price of rice rose through ‘market forces’, driven by a number of factors including: the cessation of imports from Japanese-occupied Burma, a dramatic wartime decline in other requisite grain imports into India, compounded by the deliberate strategic slashing of Allied Indian Ocean shipping; heavy-handed government action in seizing Bengali rice stocks in sensitive areas; the seizure of boats critically required for food acquisition and rice distribution; and finally the ‘divide and rule’ policy of giving the various Indian provinces control over their own food stocks. Critically, cashed-up, wartime, industrial, Calcutta could pay for rice and sucked food out of a starving, food-producing countryside.

Ultimately, millions of Bengalis died because their British rulers didn’t give a damn and had other strategic imperatives. The Bengal Famine and its aftermath for the debilitated Bengal population consumed its victims over several years in the case of complete British inaction through most of 1943 or insufficient subsequent action. Churchill had a confessed hatred for Indians and during the famine he opposed the humanitarian attempts of people such as the Prime Minister of Canada, Louis Mountbatten, Viceroy General Wavell, and even of Japanese collaborationist leader Subhash Chandra Bose. The hypothesis can be legitimately advanced that the extent of the Bengal Famine derived in part from sustained, deliberate policy.

The wartime Bengal Famine has become a ‘forgotten holocaust’ and has been effectively deleted from our history books, from school and university curricula and from general public perception. To the best of my knowledge, Churchill only wrote of it once, in a secret letter to Roosevelt dated April 29th 1944 in which he made the following remarkable plea for help in shipping Australian grain to India: ‘I am no longer justified in not asking for your help.’ Churchill’s six-volume ‘History of the Second World War’ fails to mention the cataclysm that was responsible for about 90% of total British Empire casualties in that conflict but makes the extraordinary obverse claim: ‘No great portion of the world population was so effectively protected from the horrors and perils of the World War as were the people of Hindustan. They were carried through the struggle on the shoulders of our small island.’

This whitewashing of Indian famine extends to two centuries of famine in British India. I have recently published a very detailed account of this two-century holocaust in British India that commenced with the Great Bengal Famine of 1769-1770 (10-million victims) and concluded with the World War 2 Bengal Famine (4-million victims) and took tens of millions of lives in between. In contrast to the response to the Jewish Holocaust, these events have been almost completely written out of history and removed from general perception and there has been no apology nor amends made. While Tony Blair has apologised for the mid-19th century Irish Famine that took over a million lives, there has been no apology for the World War 2 Bengal Famine.

My book is entitled, ‘Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History’ and sub-titled, ‘Colonial rapacity, holocaust denial and the crisis in biological sustainability’. I describe this whitewashing of history as ‘Austenising’ after Jane Austen, whose exquisite novels were utterly free of the ugly social realities of her time. Some of Jane Austen’s siblings and other connections, were involved in the rape of India. Of major note was Warren Hastings, the first Governor-General of India, who ferociously taxed famine-devastated Bengal and was eventually impeached and tried but ultimately acquitted for his manifold abuses in India. Warren Hastings almost certainly seduced Jane Austen’s aunt, Philadelphia Hancock. This adultery gave rise to Jane Austen’s lively cousin Eliza who is an evident model for the more advanced women of Jane Austen’s novels. While much of the huge academic Jane Austen industry has ignored (or ‘Austenised’) such interesting aspects of the lives of Jane Austen’s relatives, Jane Austen herself was much more forthcoming; thus to the initiated, ‘Sense and Sensibility’, the most Indian of her novels, includes a very detailed and barely disguised account of the Warren Hastings Scandal.

While it was legitimate for Jane Austen, the artist, to render her exquisite novels free of the contemporary awfulness in which her connections participated, the continuing ‘Austenising’ of British history is a holocaust-denying outrage that threatens humanity. Currently, 20-million people die each year of starvation-related causes and conservative, status quo productivity estimates would predict 30-million such deaths per year in the year 2050. A more realistic but still non-Malthusian view can be taken based on declining per capita agricultural production due to land degradation, decreased water availability, global warming effects on tropical cereal yields and increased population. A return from the current annual mortalities of about 10 per 1000 to the 35 per 1000 per year that obtained in British India in 1947 would yield a Third World excess mortality in 2050 of a staggering 200-million persons per year. Nevertheless this is avoidable, thus peri-conception, male sex selection provides just one simple example of a cheap, non-intrusive, pro-choice and technologically and socially feasible approach to slowing and indeed reversing population growth. That such an apparently radical suggestion is socially feasible is evidenced by the extraordinarily peaceful and tolerant multiracial society of Fiji, yet the initial male to female ratio among the indentured Indian five-year slaves was about 3 to 1.

The remorselessly continuing human catastrophe of mass starvation is avoidable provided that there is determined global responsiveness of a kind that was absent for both the Jewish Holocaust and the Bengal Famine of half a century ago. One hopes that the recent award of the Nobel Prize for Economics to Amartya Sen, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, and expert analyst of the Bengal Famine, will increase global responsiveness to this continuing humanitarian disaster. We must resurrect the horrors hidden by two centuries of holocaust-ignoring historians, resolutely face the current environmental and humanitarian cris and apply the post-Holocaust injunction of ‘Never again’.”

In summary, the neocon-infested, Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist (NAZI)-beholden ABC (the Australian equivalent of the UK BBC) has an appalling record of censorship, lying by omission and lying by commission. The ABC has evidently censored reportage of Australian complicity in the 1942-1945 Bengal Famine (Bengali Famine, Bengali Holocaust) in which the British, with Australian complicity, deliberately starved 6-7 million Indians to death in 1942-1945. Holocaust ignoring is far, far worse than repugnant holocaust denial because at least the latter admits the possibility of public discussion, History ignored yields history repeated. Genocide ignored yields genocide repeated.

Australia And Britain Killed 6-7 Million Indians
In WW2 Bengal Famine

India contributed an army of 2.4 million men to assist the British war effort in World War 2. [1].

Before the war Indian depended upon grain imports to cover production deficits. Indeed in 1935 Churchill made the following statement to the British House of Commons: “In the standard of life they have nothing to spare. The slightest fall from the present standard of life in India means slow starvation, and the actual squeezing out of life, not only of millions but of scores of millions of people, who have come into the world at your invitation and under the shield and protection of British power.” The British knew that decreased food availability per se or through price increases would doom millions to starvation…

IRAQI GENOCIDE IRAQI HOLOCAUST: 4.6 Million War-Related Deaths, 5-6 Million Refugees 1990-2011 – True Democracy Party

iraq us

ABC CENSORS IRAQI HOLOCAUST & IRAQI GENOCIDE: 4.6 million war-related deaths, 5-6 million refugees, 1990-2011
Using the ABC Search function to “search results from the entire ABC site” for the terms “Iraqi Holocaust” and “Iraqi Genocide” yields ZERO (0) results, despite the 4.6 million war-related deaths and 5-6 million Iraqi refugees that make the US Alliance violation Iraq since 1990 an Iraqi Genocide as defined by Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention.

The Americans have almost completed their withdrawal from war-devastated Iraq that since 1990 has suffered 4.6 million war-related deaths, 1.7 million violent deaths, 2.9 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 5-6 million refugees and 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths, 90% avoidable and due to egregious US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention. However the Mainstream media of the Western Murdochracies and Lobbyocracies have resolutely refused to report the carnage of the 2 decade US War on Muslims in an ongoing process of utterly repugnant genocide complicity, genocide ignoring, genocide denial, holocaust complicity, holocaust ignoring, and holocaust denial.

Thus Australian ABC News of the taxpayer-funded ABC (Australia’s equivalent of the UK BBC) : “ The US military has officially ended its war in Iraq, packing up a military flag at a low-key ceremony nearly nine years after the invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein. There are a little more than 4,000 US soldiers in Iraq but they will depart in the coming days, at which point almost no more American troops will remain in a country where there were once nearly 170,000 personnel on more than 500 bases. The withdrawal ends a war that left tens of thousands of Iraqis and nearly 4,500 American soldiers dead, many more wounded and 1.75 million Iraqis displaced, after the 2003 US-led invasion unleashed brutal sectarian fighting” (see “US military marks end of its Iraq war”, ABC News, 16 December 2011: ). Another ABC News report talks of “100,000 plus” Iraqi dead.

The ABC’s “Tens of thousands” or “100,000 plus” dead Iraqis enormously underestimates the death toll. Thus the eminent US Just Foreign Policy organization estimates on the basis of expert medical epidemiological data that post-invasion violent deaths total 1.5 million and comments “The number is shocking and sobering. It is at least 10 times greater than most estimates cited in the US media, yet it is based on a scientific study of violent Iraqi deaths caused by the U.S.-led invasion of March 2003” (see: ). In addition some 0.2 million Iraqis were killed in the Gulf War.

However violent deaths represent one part of the post-invasion death toll. Non-violent avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation as estimated from UN Population Division data (2006 revision data i.e. before the US Puppet Maliki Government was installed) total 1.2 million (2003-2011, under US Occupation) and 1.7 million (1990-2003, under Sanctions and US, UK and Israeli bombing).

UN Population Division data (2006 Revision data) show that Iraqi under-5 infant deaths totaled 0.8 million (2003-2011) and 1.2 million (1990-2003). In 1999 Carol Bellamy, former Executive Director of UNICEF had noted that if the substantial reduction in child mortality throughout Iraq during the 1980s had continued through the 1990s, there would have been half a million fewer deaths of children under-five in the country as a whole during the eight year period 1991 to 1998 and that “Today’s under-5 mortality rate of 131 per 1000 in south and central Iraq is comparable to current rates in Haiti (132) and Pakistan (136)”(see: ). After US Puppet Maliki was installed, UN statistics were revised to claim that Sanctions, US, UK and Israeli bombing (1990-2003) and thence of violent Occupation (2003-2011) actually led to a DECREASE in under-5 infant mortality (deaths under-5 per 1,000 births) from 47 (1995-2000) to 44 (2000-2005), 42 (2005-2010) and 41 (2010-2015) (see: ).

In 2007, the United Nations estimated that nearly 5 million refugees had fled the country since 2003, this figure not including internally displaced persons (IDPs). Iraqi refugees generated by the war total 5-6 million (see: and UNHCR: ).

Dennis Halliday was the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq from September 1, 1997, until 1998. He resigned after 34 years with the UN, including being UN assistant secretary-general, over the Sanctions imposed on Iraq, characterizing them as “genocide”(see: ). Nearly 22 years of Western war against the Iraqi people is now associated with 4.6 million war-related deaths, 1.7 million violent deaths, 2.9 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 5-6 million refugees and 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to gross US Alliance violation of Articles 55 and 56 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War which demand that an Occupier must provide life-sustaining food and medical requisites to its conquered subjects “to the fullest extent of the means available to it” (see: ) .

This constitutes an Iraqi Holocaust and an Iraqi Genocide according to by Article 2 of the UN Geneva Convention: (see: ) which states: “In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: a) Killing members of the group; b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”

Australia’s ABC has resolutely failed to report the Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide. Indeed an ABC Search of the entire ABC site for the key terms “Iraqi Holocaust” and “Iraqi Genocide” yields 4 results (all posted listener comments by me) and 6 results (again, all posted listener comments by Dr Gideon Polya); Google searches for these terms yield 60,000 and 36,000 rwesult, respectively (April 2012). ABC Searches for “under-5 infant deaths” or “under-5 deaths” yield 8 results (all posted listener comments by Dr Gideon Polya) and zero (0) results, respectively.

An ABC Search for the term “Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War” yields ZERO (0) results of reportage by the ABC per se but turned up the following comment made by a person with the nom de plume “Think not” who has been evidently inspired by the identical argument I have been endlessly presenting over the last decade: “In his recent speech in Cairo, Obama actually made a confession of war criminality when he alluded to “aid” of $7.5 billion for Pakistan and $2.8 billion for occupied Afghanistan – yet Articles 55 and 56 of The Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons In Time of War demand that the Occupier does everything “to the fullest extent of the means available to it” to keep its conquered subjects alive. That means for 27 million occupied Afghans at least the same annual per capita medical expenditure as for metropolitan U.S.A. i.e. $6.714 per person per year x 27 million Afghans = $180 billion every year rather than the paltry $2.8 billion offered. Obama is currently the world’s number one violent extremist – the world’s number one killer of children, and the world’s number one holocaust denier because he absolutely ignores the horrendous human cost of the US’s invasions, occupations and devastation in the Muslim world” (see: ).

The annual total per capita medical expenditure permitted by the Americans in Iraq in 2009 was US$167 as compared to US$7,410 for the US (see ).

In 2004 Australia’s top science journalist Robyn Williams permitted me to make a nation-wide broadcast on his Ockham’s Razor program entitled “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” (28 August 2005) : . I said in part (August 2005) : “The latest UNICEF report in 2005 estimates that for the year 2003 the under-5 infant mortality was 110,000 in occupied Iraq, 292,000 in occupied Afghanistan and 1,000 in the invading and occupying country Australia (noting that these countries have populations of about 25-million, 24-million and 20-million respectively).Using publicly available United Nations and medical literature data one can readily calculate that there have been about 0.4 million avoidable deaths in post-invasion Iraq. In 1991 the UK recommenced military action against Iraq that had kicked off in 1914. In 2003 the US, UK and Australia illegally invaded and conquered Iraq. I have calculated that the under-5 infant mortality was 1.2 million for Iraq since 1991; 0.2 million for Iraq since the 2003 invasion; and 0.9 million for Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion… The US, UK and Australia are clearly complicit in horrendous avoidable mortality and infant mortality in a swathe of invaded Asian countries in the post-1950 era. This now raises the philosophic issue of responsibility. The occupying ruler is responsible for the ruled, (noting ‘occupation’ includes military, economic and political hegemony and rule by client indigenous regimes). Further, whether an adult or child is killed violently or dies non-violently from deprivation or avoidable disease, the end result is the same and the culpability the same. In 2004 the estimated per capita medical expenditure was only $US37 in occupied Iraq, but $US3,100 in the invading and occupying country, Australia. This roughly one-hundredfold difference in per capita medical expenditure is reflected in a one-hundredfold difference in under-5 infant mortality. The provision of grossly inappropriate medical assistance in occupied Iraq at only about 1% of the per capita level in the occupying Coalition countries is criminal and genocidal… Jihadist violence has taken roughly about 5,000 Western civilian lives over the last 20 years, with most of the victims dying on 9/11 (about 3,000) and the remainder including murdered Israeli civilians and the victims of atrocities such as Madrid, Lockerbie and Bali. However this jihadist violence has had immensely bloodier consequences through the hysterically and dishonestly promoted War on Terror that has been associated with post-invasion avoidable deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan alone that total 1.6 million.” This talk was later published as a chapter entitled “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” in a book “Lies, Deep Fries & Statistics” (edited by Robyn Williams, ABC Books, Sydney, 2007: ).

As of several weeks ago, an ABC Search for the title of my talk “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” yields ZERO (0) results and indeed a search for “gideon polya” yields only 2 results (3 radio broadcast transcripts and numerous comment thread contributions have disappeared). However the courageous and ethical Ockham’s Razor site on ABC Radio National still carries links to these 3 significant radio broadcasts, namely the link , that in turn gives links to “Bengali Famine”: , “Crisis in our universities: , and “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality”: . However in order to find these transcripts you needed to know my name, the subject matter, and that they were to do with “history” and broadcast on the Ockham’s Razor Radio National program.

Possibly in response to my public complaint, a Google search for “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” now (late December 2011) DOES yield the correct link (instead of a dead link as of a week or so ago) but an ABC Search for “gideon polya” still elicits only 2 results (a question and a comment thread comment) and no mention of “Iraq”. An ABC Search for “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” still yields ZERO (0) results.

In the public interest I have reproduced the entirety of my talk “Australian complicity in Iraq mass mortality” below.

“Gideon Polya: The fundamental process of science successively involves considering all the data, setting up testable models of reality, gathering new data to test such potentially falsifiable hypotheses, and then refining our models to accommodate the new data set.

A fundamental rule for scientists is that you cannot rub out the data; this will simply derail the scientific process.

‘Rubbing out’ is particularly dangerous when the data have a direct bearing on human mortality. History ignored yields history repeated, and a ‘rubbing out’ or denial of huge mortality events such as the Jewish Holocaust will surely greatly increase the probability of their recurrence.

Indeed some countries, notably Germany, have made Holocaust denial illegal, albeit only in relation to the Jewish Holocaust.

Nevertheless an extraordinary feature of the post-war world has been the resolute refusal of Anglo-American media to report avoidable mass mortality and other atrocities linked to Western activities. Thus in 1943-44 a man-made, market-forces famine killed an estimated four million Hindu and Muslim Bengalis in British-ruled India, but most Australians will simply never have heard of this ‘forgotten holocaust’.

According to Amartya Sen, the 1998 Economics Nobel Laureate, prosperous, wartime Calcutta sucked food out of a starving countryside, those who could not afford the fourfold increase in the price of rice simply perished. Civilian and military sexual abuse of starving females involved some 30,000 victims in Calcutta alone and probably hundreds of thousands throughout Bengal. The famine-enforced sexual exploitation of starving women and girls in the British Military Labour Corps demands comparison with the ‘comfort women’ abuses of the Japanese Imperial Army.

To reiterate, history ignored yields history repeated, but unfortunately lying by omission is entrenched in Anglo-American mainstream media.

I have been researching and writing a book on post-1950 avoidable global mortality. This has involved using United Nations data to calculate the avoidable mortality, (or technically, excess mortality) for every country in the world since 1950. Avoidable mortality is the difference between the actual deaths in a country and the deaths expected for a peaceful, decently-run country with the same demographics.

The post-1950 avoidable mortality has been 1.3 billion for the world, 1 billion for the Third World and 0.5 billion for the Muslim World, a Muslim Holocaust 100 times greater than the Jewish Holocaust or the contemporaneous but ‘forgotten’ Bengal Famine in British-ruled India.

These figures are horrendous and demand some kind of corroboration. To achieve this I have independently calculated the post-1950 under-5 infant mortality for every country in the world. The post-1950 under-5 infant mortality has totalled about 0.9 billion for the world, 0.8 billion for the non-European world and 0.4 billion for the Muslim world. One can calculate from United Nations demographic data that about 90% of the non-European under-5 infant mortality has been potentially avoidable.

When considered country by country, the horrendous post-1950 ‘avoidable mortality’ and ‘under-5 infant mortality’ correlate with impositions of First World countries (principally the UK, US, France, Portugal and Russia) that have variously included colonial occupation, neo-colonial hegemony, economic exclusion, economic constraint, malignant interference, corrupt client regimes, militarisation, debt, civil war and international war.

Time does not permit a detailed analysis here of avoidable global mortality. However I have written widely on this matter and a Google search for ‘Gideon Polya’ will allow ready access to this information.

For example, the post-1950 infant mortality in Asian and Pacific countries in which Australia has been involved militarily in that period totals 34 million.

Australia is involved militarily in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it is important to assess the human cost of the US-led intervention in these countries. However, when questioned at a recent Senate Estimates Committee hearing, both a minister and a top Intelligence chief denied knowledge of such information.

The top ABC journalist, Tony Eastley, concluded: ‘The Australian Government has admitted it doesn’t know how many civilians have died in the Iraq war, and neither it, nor US authorities, are trying to find out.’

Indeed US authorities have repeatedly stated that they do not keep records of civilian casualties. However, as with the children overboard, the weapons of mass destruction and the torture of Iraqi prisoners, the truth eventually emerges.

The latest UNICEF report in 2005 estimates that for the year 2003 the under-5 infant mortality was 110,000 in occupied Iraq, 292,000 in occupied Afghanistan and 1,000 in the invading and occupying country Australia (noting that these countries have populations of about 25-million, 24-million and 20-million respectively).

Using publicly available United Nations and medical literature data one can readily calculate that there have been about 0.4 million avoidable deaths in post-invasion Iraq.

In 1991 the UK recommenced military action against Iraq that had kicked off in 1914. In 2003 the US, UK and Australia illegally invaded and conquered Iraq. I have calculated that the under-5 infant mortality was 1.2 million for Iraq since 1991; 0.2 million for Iraq since the 2003 invasion; and 0.9 million for Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion.

US military technologies and strategies minimise politically unpopular military casualties at the expense of civilian deaths in US-invaded countries. There have been about 1,000 US combat deaths in post-invasion Iraq and Afghanistan and one can accordingly calculate that the ratio of avoidable, post-invasion under-5 infant deaths to US combat deaths has been about 1,000 to 1.

The US, UK and Australia are clearly complicit in horrendous avoidable mortality and infant mortality in a swathe of invaded Asian countries in the post-1950 era.

The provision of grossly inappropriate medical assistance in occupied Iraq at only about 1% of the per capita level in the occupying Coalition countries is criminal and genocidal.

Professor Peter Singer, formerly at Monash University Melbourne, and now Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University in the US, has been widely acclaimed as the most influential living philosopher.

Professor Singer has generated enormous controversy over his advocacy of ‘active’, painless, non-voluntary euthanasia for severely disabled infants. However his comments over ‘passive euthanasia’ are relevant to ‘passive genocide’ by the Coalition in Iraq. ‘Doctors who deliberately leave a baby to die when they have the awareness, the ability, and the opportunity to save the baby’s life, are just as morally responsible for the death as they would be if they had brought it about by a deliberate positive action.’

Professor Peter Singer has further stated the following moral generality ‘We are responsible not only for what we do but also for what we could have prevented … We could consider the consequences of what we do and what we decide not to do.’

Jihadist violence has taken roughly about 5,000 Western civilian lives over the last 20 years, with most of the victims dying on 9/11 (about 3,000) and the remainder including murdered Israeli civilians and the victims of atrocities such as Madrid, Lockerbie and Bali.

However this jihadist violence has had immensely bloodier consequences through the hysterically and dishonestly promoted War on Terror that has been associated with post-invasion avoidable deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan alone that total 1.6 million.

The War on Terror has substantially helped to produce a post-9/11 extra profit for the US military-industrial complex of about $US500 billion. The annual world death toll from car accidents and smoking-related causes is about 1 million and 5 million respectively. One can see why there is no War on Cars nor a War on Cigarettes.

To conclude, rubbing out the facts prevents rational, scientific solutions to major problems, including avoidable mass mortality. My solution to the continuing global mass mortality holocaust can be summarised by the acronym CAAAA: Cessation of the violence and the lying; Acknowledgement of the human cost: Apology for First World complicity in continuing Third World mass mortality; Amends by aid, debt relief and economic decency; and Assertion that this holocaust will stop and never be repeated.

Silence kills. Silence is complicity. Please inform everyone, discuss this with your associates and then act as responsible citizens. We cannot walk by on the other side.”

The ABC censorship of the Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide also extends to censorship of the Palestinian Genocide (1.5 million war- and occupation-related Palestinian deaths, 0.1 million Palestinians killed violently, 1.4 million avoidable Palestinian deaths from war- and occupation-imposed deprivation, 7 million refugees, 3,600 Palestinian infants passively murdered by Apartheid Israel each year ), the Afghan Holocaust and Afghan Genocide (5.6 million war-related deaths, 4.2 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 3-4 million refugees and 2.9 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths, 90% avoidable and due to US Alliance and Australian war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention), the Somali Holocaust and Somali Genocide ( 2.2 million war-related deaths, 0.4 million violent deaths, 1.8 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 1.3 million under-5 infant deaths, 2.0 million refugees) and the Libyan Genocide (50,000 killed, 1 million Black Libyan refugees, 0.2 million other refugees) (see “Palestinian Genocide”: , “Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide”: and “Muslim Holocaust, Muslim Genocide”: ). ABC Searches for the terms “Palestinian Genocide”, “Afghan Genocide”, “Somali Holocaust”, “Somali Genocide” and “Libyan Genocide” all yield ZERO (0) results.

In summary, the taxpayer-funded ABC (Australia’s equivalent of the UK BBC) has deliberately ignored and censored out authoritative reportage of the Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide that has been associated with 4.6 million war-related Iraqi deaths, 1.7 million violent Iraqi deaths, 2.9 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to gross US Alliance war crimes in violation of the Geneva Convention) and 5-6 million refugees. The ABC claims that it “Is Australia’s most trusted, independent source of news. Our network of more than 500 journalists at home and abroad provide unrivalled coverage of the news events that affect Australians” .William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw) was hanged by the British in 1946 for broadcasting on behalf of the Nazi Germans. The Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist (NAZI)-beholden and pro-war-, pro-Zionist- and pro-US ABC and its 500 “journalists” must simply be publicly exposed for lying by commission and lying by omission over the Iraqi Genocide (4.6 million war related deaths), Afghan Genocide (5.6 million war-related deaths), Palestinian Genocide (1.5 million war-, occupation- and expulsion-related deaths), Somali Genocide (2.2 million war-related deaths) and the Libyan Genocide (50,000 war-related deaths).

Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence complicity. Decent people are obliged to tell the Awful Truth to everyone they can but the Australian ABC through censorship, self-censorship and lying by commission and commission is complicit in the horrendous, genocidal war crimes of the US Alliance War on Muslims that has been associated with 9 million war-related deaths since 2001 and 12 million war-related deaths since 1990. Australian journalists and politicians complicit in the Iraqi Genocide should be publicly exposed and arraigned before the International Criminal Court. Indeed John Valder, former national president of former PM John Howard’s Liberal Party, demanded that Australian PM John Howard be arraigned for war crimes, stating “”Bush, Blair, and Howard, as leaders of the three members of the coalition of the willing, inflicted enormous suffering on the people of Iraq. And, as such, they are criminals” (see “Ho3ard is a war criminal” , sys former colleague”, Sydney Morning Herald, 19 July 2004: ).

In his 2005 Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, Harold Pinter advocated war crimes trials before the ICC for Bush and Blair, declaring “How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice” (see: ). 4.6 million? Surely enough, I would have thought.

This video reports on how America has mass murdered well over 2 million Iraqis. This ongoing war crime will live to infinity to become a tale of eternity. The atomic weapon America used in 2 wars was “depleted uranium.” It was used in anti tank shells to pierce armor. All the destroyed radioactive tanks lying around in Iraq are being played in by children. The children will have their genne structures defomed for generations into infinity.

Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide: as of October 2011, 5.6 million war-related deaths, 2001-2011; 1.4 million post-invasion violent deaths; 4.2 million non-violent excess deaths from deprivation; 2.9 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention), 3-4 million refugees plus 2.5 million NW Pakistan Pashtun refugees.

GOOGLE GOES TO WAR! – Google Is The “Newest” Merchant Of Death, International Arms Dealer, War Profiteer! “The Gog Of War!-Don’t Be Evil?!”

god of war3

With Google’s recent purchase of Boston Dynamics, a Boston, Mass. based company that supplies Advanced Mobile Robotic Fighting Systems, Battle Bots(War Robots), for DARPA, they have joined a very exclusive group of International Arms Dealers and War Profiteers. They are the “Newest” Merchants of Death.

Google is now the Alpha and Omega of War.
They have their own Satellites(even in orbit around Mars), and world wide communications network. They have their own world wide instant mapping system, as good as or better than anything the NSA or CIA has.

They have access to all computer systems, search engines and websites. They can control all information in the Media.

And now they have their own (Potential) Private Robot Army. No matter who they sell their new Advanced Robot Fighting Systems to, you can bet your last dollar, they will have a Back-Door access to control every one of them.

Since they can control media and information, they can start wars, furnish the war material and weapons systems, and if they so desire, they will most likely be able to enter the Fray themselves, with their new GoogleBots.

One stop shopping for War…the Alpha and Omega Of War.

NOTE: We couldn’t find a single website or Post, accusing Google of becoming the next group of International Arms Dealers, War Profiteers and Merchants Of Death. Is this the beginning of their “Censorship” of them and War. Or is a Plumber from Maryland, the only one to make the connection.

You be the Judge!

Just a thought 🙂

Google buys major military robot maker: Why does search giant want to be ‘BigDog’ of automation?
Nidhi Subbaraman NBC News

ATLAS, a 330-lb. humanoid robot, that they will use to compete in a DARPA robot competition.

Google is on a robot shopping spree, and its recent purchase of a military robot maker has some wondering what exactly the company intends to do with its own zoo of electronic creatures that creep, crawl, and climb.

It may seem odd for the Internet search giant to purchase a Boston Dynamics, a company that makes rugged machines that can run up to 29 mph, traverse rocky terrain and hurl cinder blocks up to 17 feet. The company is the eighth robot maker Google has snatched up. But the deals also indicate that the Internet giant and pioneer of self-driving cars is serious about a robot-filled future.

Other Internet-based companies are tapping into the consumer trend as well. Last year, Amazon bought Kiva Systems, to move packages in their warehouses. Earlier this month, in an announcement that raised eyebrows, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that flying delivery drones would deliver packages within five years. Meanwhile, experts and researchers anticipate that with our booming population, people may come to increasingly rely on assistive robots for elderly care.

Google’s master plan remains a secret
So far, Google isn’t sharing much about the purchases augmenting it’s newly-launched robotics division. “It is still very early days for this, but I can’t wait to see the progress,” Larry Page wrote in a Google+ post, when the New York Times revealed news of the robotics operation.

Google seems to be piecing the ultimate walking, dexterous robot that can sense its surroundings — Boston Dynamics joins an assortment of newly acquired robot makers with a variety of strengths. For example, Schaft, spun off from Tokyo University, is developing a champion rescue humanoid with great balance and strong limbs, (which started out as a great pair of legs). Makers of graspers and robotics arms — Meka and Redwood Robotics are also in the mix, as are Bot and Dolly, which build robotic camera systems that were used to film “Gravity.”

“I think it will be the transformation of our society — how we work, how we learn, take care of our sick, conduct our commerce, explore, handle disasters, fight wars… everything,” Peter Diamandis, big-thinker and founder of the X-Prize Foundation, wrote in a Google+ post on Friday.

Mechanical monster hounds and more
Boston Dynamics tackles the challenge of locomotion on uneven turf — a hurdle to roboticists who design machines that move. Compared to existing home robots like the iRobot’s floor-cleaner Roomba, Boston Dynamics’ zooniverse of animal-based robots built for climbing hills, clearing walls, and surviving wars are made of some serious metal.

Started by Marc Raibert, a roboticist who taught at MIT and Carnegie Mellon University, and author of “Legged Robots That Balance,” the company channels funding from DARPA and various arms of the military into a steadily expanding family of robots that can tackle almost any terrain.

BigDog, a headless four-legged monster hound is trained to hurl 35 lb cinderblocks over a distance of 17 feet, and keep its footing over very uneven turf. A record-breaker, the Cheetah robot, clocked a charging speed of 28.3 miles per hour, breaking Usain Bolt’s running time. Boston Dynamics demoed it’s successor, WildCat, this year, which can move without Cheetah’s power cords, but is not quite as fast … yet. Moving on wheels rather than legs, the tiny 11-lb Sand Flea can leap up to 30 feet, easily two stories, into the air.

Boston Dynamics’ army of robotic wonder-beasts wouldn’t be complete without a sampling of two-legged human lookalikes.

PETMAN, the company’s first model, has been dry-testing safety suits for the military for a few years. But in June this year, the Boston Dynamics took the wraps off Atlas, a chunkier cousin of the PETMAN humanoid, which will compete for a future as a rescue robot in DARPA’s ongoing robotics innovation contest.

“We have had a great time at Boston Dynamics, building our menagerie of robots and bringing them this far along,” Marc Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics, wrote in an email to NBC News. “Now we are excited to take the next step, to see how much further ahead we can take robotics, working with Google’s gangbuster team.”

The not-so-distant future of Google robots
The possibilities are tantalizing: What can Google do with a brood of hyper-mobile galloping robots? The search-giant is already bulking up its navigation systems in the self-driving cars. For off-road exploration, with that technology added to BigDog or WildCat, isn’t too much of a stretch to imagine.

Yet, several questions remain. With Google at the helm, will Raibert and BigDog be muzzled? So far, Boston Dynamics has been open, even brazen, about showing off the latest in its lineup of awe-inspiring yet fearsome machines via regularly posted YouTube videos. Founder Raibert told a gathering of roboticists at the International Robotics and Intelligent Systems conference in Tokyo in November that he tracked Boston Dynamics’ YouTube view counts, and was proud of how BigDog had become an Internet sensation. Meanwhile, earlier acquisitions Meka and Redwood Robotics, have closed down their websites and retreated into stealth mode.

One thing to watch for: Will BigDog be trained not to chase after Google’s self-driving cars?

Why Google Bought a Fleet of Military Robots

By Will Oremus

Google just bought a fearsome fleet of robots.

The company confirmed a New York Times report that it has acquired Boston Dynamics, the Massachusetts-based maker of such noted mechanical beasts as BigDog, Atlas, Petman, Cheetah, and Wildcat. The company’s robots are among the world’s most advanced two- and four-legged machines. Some are humanoid, while others resemble predatory animals. Most have been developed under contract with military agencies, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA.

What might Google want with an army of military robots? At first gasp, the answer might seem to be, “conquering the world.” But that doesn’t seem to be the goal—at least, not in a military sense. Google told the Times it will honor Boston Dynamics’ existing contracts, including a $10.8 million deal with DARPA to develop its Atlas prototype for potential humanitarian use in disasters like the Fukushima meltdown. But Google added that it does not plan to become a military contractor itself.

Instead, my guess is that the company sees the development of physical robots as a natural extension of its core interest in artificial intelligence. Google has been working for years on teaching machines to understand language, make sense of images and videos, and navigate real-world environments. Now it will have a new set of toys—er, tools—on which to test out its machine-learning theories. Boston Dynamics, by the way, is the company’s eighth robotics-related acquisition in the past year alone.

What practical use they’ll ultimately serve is anyone’s guess. Google itself probably doesn’t know at this point. But it has put one of its top executives—former Android chief Andy Rubin—to work full-time figuring that out. (The Times had a good story on Rubin earlier this month.)

From all the press Boston Dynamics’ DARPA bots have gotten, you might think this acquisition would be a big blow to national security. In fact, as I’ve explained before, the company’s robots are a long way from being truly useful in the field. DARPA, like Google, was more interested in using them to learn what is and isn’t possible than to actually aid in any upcoming military efforts. With Boston Dynamics out of play, the field should now be open for other robotics companies to snap up those military-research contracts. Fellow Massachusetts-based company iRobot—maker of the Roomba, but also more advanced projects like the PackBot bomb-disposal robot—comes to mind.

For now, here’s a look at some of Boston Dynamics’ greatest hits, which are now officially GoogleBots—and which may be among the last of their breed.

Meet DARPA’s real-world Terminator, Atlas

By Sebastian Anthony on July 12, 2013

Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot

Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot

DARPA and Boston Dynamics, of BigDog, Petman, and Cheetah fame, have unveiled their most advanced humanoid robot yet: Atlas. At 6’2″ (188cm) and 330lbs (150kg), Atlas is incredibly imposing; with 28 hydraulically actuated joints, LIDAR and stereo vision, a beefy on-board computer, and some of the most advanced robotic limbs ever conceived, Atlas is remarkably human-like in its behavior. While Atlas is initially conceived as a disaster response robot, such as cleaning up and looking for survivors after a Fukushima-like disaster, it’s easy to imagine Atlas being the basis of a robotic army, supported by BigDog mules.

As you can see in the photo above and the video below, Atlas is incredibly technologically advanced. With 28 hydraulic joints, Atlas can replicate almost every degree of human motion — or, in the case of the robot hands provided by iRobot and Sandia National Labs, surpass them. Vision is provided by a Carnegie Robotics LIDAR and stereo camera system; LIDAR, or light-based radar, is the same detection and ranging system used by autonomous vehicles, such as Google’s self-driving car. LIDAR is expensive, but incredibly accurate. The tech specs say that Atlas has its own on-board hydraulic pump, but you can see in the video that it’s still tethered to some kind of off-board power/hydraulic supply. Like BigDog, which started off tethered, Atlas will eventually be self-powered and free to roam wherever it wishes.

Atlas has an on-board, real-time computer — but it hasn’t yet been loaded up with its software brain. As it stands, Atlas is a shell, and more than a dozen teams will now compete in the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) to see who can create the best brain for Atlas. In December 2013, each team will load up an Atlas with its software and compete in a series of disaster response trials. The best teams will receive continued funding from DARPA, and will then compete in the DRC finals in December 2014. Whoever wins that will receive $2 million from DARPA, and presumably a big contract for the commercial production of Atlas robots.

The ostensible purpose of Atlas is disaster response. As you can see in the video, Atlas has no problem walking over rough terrain, and the robotic hands that it’s equipped with are some of most dexterous and flexible hands that money can buy. (Read more about the iRobot and Sandia robot hands.) Hopefully, Atlas will be able to wade into dangerous disaster zones and save human lives.

It is hard to ignore the fact that Atlas looks like a Terminator, though. Given that its canine predecessor, BigDog, will soon join the US Marines, it seems inevitable that Atlas will eventually find its way to the battlefield. When that happens, the US will be able to field robot soldiers that are stronger, more resilient, and probably more accurate with their weapons than their human counterparts. At first, as with today’s UAVs, Atlas soldiers will probably be operated by humans situated safely in a bunker back home — but as their software improves, autonomous robot soldiers are not out of the question.

And then, a few months or years or decades later, they’ll take over the world.

US Army Robots Will Outnumber Human Soldiers in a Decade

A lot can happen in 10 years, especially with the ever-increasing advances in technology. When you think about what might happen in the military in the next decade, the possibilities seem endless. With so much technology at our hands, will humans eventually become second class to machines? Long have robotic soldiers been prevalent in Hollywood, with movies such as Terminator and I-Robot, but some experts think a surplus of robots might actually be enlisting into the armed forces by 2023. Just how many robots? Well, quite a few.

Scott Hartley, one of the founders of 5D Robotics, recently had this to say at an Army demonstration at Fort Benning in Georgia: …”ten years from now, there will probably be one soldier for every 10 robots. Each soldier could have one or five robots flanking him, looking for enemies, scanning for land mines.”
Robots…The Future Of The Military?

Wow. That would be a ratio of 10 robotic soldiers to every human soldier – that’s quite the difference in numbers!

The demonstration at Fort Benning included military leaders observing different robots using M-240 machine guns to hit targets at a distance of 800 meters. Some of these robots were remotely controlled, but others were not. In the future, some leaders are eventually hoping that robots will become more and more human like on the battlefield.

Hartley praises the technology pointing out the lives that could eventually be saved by sending robots into harms way. Granted, if robots are used in place of humans, that would certainly minimize human casualties of war, but it seems it would also make war less of an extreme option. After all, robots don’t have families; they don’t have children who would lose a Mom or a Dad in the fight for freedom. Robotic soldiers also lose the camaraderie gained by their human counterparts.

If the military was full of robots, the country could just go to war without much of a second thought, because really, besides the cost – who cares about robots? Robots are great for a lot of different purposes, but I’m not so sure they should be fighting our battles and wars for us.

What do you think? Are you all for robots replacing most of the humans in the military?

The only thing I can think of when I read these articles, are the Movies “I-Robot” and The “Terminator Series”.
